Eurovision 2008 thread!

I missed the first semifinal yesterday. Don't think I missed that much. The Eurovision Song Contest, once a prestigious show with even a symphony orchestra on stage, has sunk to a stupid europop competition with very little good musical content. Sad. It starts to look more like a freakshow. :rollno:

I don't know if sweden's participant this year is a "young" blonde. She (Charlotte Perelli, earlier Nilsson) won the Eurovision in 1999 IIRC. She's definitely not 20 anymore, and always wears too much makeup. Perhaps she's done something else to here face as well... The song she won with was quite catchy, but this new one sucks. Just another bad Europop song. Nothing interesting in it. Nothing. There were actually a few good songs in the Swedish semifinals, so it's sad the swedes had to vote for this song this time...

Well, you can always watch the Belgium's this year's fashionably-30-years-late entry "O Julissi" on repeat :p

By the way, it appears that the Russian song was co-produced by Timbaland, and there was a real Stradivarius and a world-class violinist on the stage too. The stage show also featured a mini-icerink with a figure skater - Evgeni Plushenko, who's a three-time world champion and a olympic gold medalist. Russians aren't short of cash, it would seem :D

Wow.

Most likely. ;) I read that the band is having fun with the whole stereotypical metal image.
They're kinda like Manowar, only they don't actually believe they are the best band ever. :p

What, Finland didn't win this year? How strange :p

But yeah, the band is relatively popular in Finland, in the mainstream metal scene. They don't take themselves very seriously, nor does their audience, since they're basicly heavily copying Manowar and adding a some kind of "viking warriors" theme.

However, I know their guitarist, and as a testament to the age old wisdom about lead singers, the answer is yes, the vocalist is a jerk who's got the lead singer syndrome real bad :D
