Hi We have an old set of EV PA speakers. One of them just went dead at a gig last week. The horn seems to be working but the woofer is dead. There are no rips or tears in the cone. Any idea what caused this and if it is possible to diganose and repair? When my the horn on my JBL monitor died it was a simple and cheap fix to change out the diaphragm. I have a feeling this won't be simple or cheap.

Reconing the woofer is the likely fix. It's simple for a reconer, not so much for a do it yourselfer.
Id check to make sure it's not something like a broken lead or damaged xover component. Then check the driver with a DVM (should read about 60-70% of it's niminal impedance, eg 8ohm=5-6R typically). If no DVM, with the xover disconnected, toch a 9V battery across the driver terminals for a moment and see if the cone moves. Also when you push gently on the cone, it should move smoothly with no scraping.
