EV Powered Speakers-What do you think about the specs?

Much of sound is subjective and depends on how you set them up.

I use mine with a set of DB Technologies sub 05 and a DBX drive rack..... this combined wiht the digital mixer is incredible....... (that wasn't any help was it?"

The new Powered ClassD speakers commonly sound like studio monitors... Not really a fair comparison as I came from HUGE 2way wood box peavey mains.. I could get them to thud like they had a sub...

I know my bank account sounds about $5000 lighter since revamping my PA

I have used and sold (I'm a contracting dealer but only serve as a private bassist on this site) quite a few sets and they really do sound great. The subs are very meaty and the top boxes are very smooth.

I will say though, that I find the JBL PRX series to be a much better sounding set of top boxes and the sub in the XLF version is much manlier than the ELX-18P.

But if budget says the ELXP's are the better fit, you will not be disappointed. I'm just saying the JBL's are crisper in the top end (as one expects with JBL) but much more thump from the subs.

I do prefer the smoothness of the ELX-12P over the ELX-15P. I do recommend the 12" with the sub over the 15'.

ALL of sound is subjective. That's why the specs aren't always the right criterion for making a decision although, all things being equal, they should be a good way to make that decision.

Too bad a universal room setup can't be adopted.

I have used the Control series speakers for fixed installations and have been impressed by the sound relative to the smaller sizes (Control 25, Control 28, Control 29, mostly).

I have both the ELX112p and ELX115p along with the ELX118p. After using both tops with the ELX118p I(along with my band members) find the ELX115p to be a much better sounding box with or without the sub.

HIGHLY recommend these cabs!

They both are great sounding boxes, I just prefer the sound of the 12" for the lower midrange region of the vocal range over the 15"'s. The 15" will thump much more than the 12", but that's why you use the sub. The 15" gets a little "honky" in that same area of the vocal range, which is typical of any 15" two-way box. If you only had one set of boxes w/o the subs, I'd say use the 15" should you be running any drums or bass or keys through the system.

Myself, I just got done placing the order today to replace the Mackie SA1521/SWA1801's we've been using for....a long time now. After having the advantage of being a dealer, and having the ability to bring all the boxes in to A-B-C them.

I chose the JBL PRX 635 three-ways to go along with the 618S-XLF subs. Overall, they were the better choice for what I do. I loved the mid-horn for a nice smooth vocal reproduction, they handle considerable more power than the EV's or the comparable QSC's. All three brands sound boobies! Can't go wrong with either the QSC K-series, the EV ELX or the PRX boxes from JBL. They are light for what they are, and Crown really has put a nice set of amps in them. They run a tad hot, but Crown reliability has come a long way in the last 5 years. These will be the perfect partner to my recent Presonus StudioLive 16.4.2 purchase. Lightning fast set-ups are on the way, and I can soundcheck the drums whether the drummer has made it to the gig or not thanks to the Presonus Capture software!
