I'm not sure what it is exactly, Ken. It's not necessarily that they feel ultra high in tension, they just behave differently under my hand. It could be a set up thing when I get the full set on, if I have concerns I'll take it to my luthier, but I think it's sitting in the well lubbed slots nicely. It could also just be an adjustment on my part that's needed. I've been working through an injury and studying Alexander so I'm kind of weird next to the bass right now anyway.

I tweaked my Nut and Bridge for each string while installing them. It was just a slight adjustment from the width that was cut for the Flexocor Starks.

Really, a very helpful observation!
Ken, (by the way, a question out of topic), what happens if you go back to your previous set? (Flexocor or any set with smaller diameter)
Then the slots will be slightly wider and there's no way to narrow them. Can this be a bad thing or not?

I'm definitely liking these more and more as time goes by. I actually have the full set on now. Robert Hurst wanted me to lower my strings and at the lower height I felt like the guts lost a lot of volume so I put on the Evah's on top. I'm still adjusting to the higher tension, but they're only getting better!

I have gone from Flexocor to Oliv (REAL Thick!) and back to Felxocor. I use a caliper to measure the string and them I measure the tapered file and mark the maximum width I need to cut. A .100 file will cut more than .100 because you are not a machine and will move side to side a little cutting it wider. Be careful with these rattail files and cut less at first. Also, the angle at which you curve the slots to and away from the string help hold the string on the right path.

I am very picky about my Nuts! Just ask Arnold! :D

If one string is .057" and the other is .068" (just an example, not actual) then the difference of .011 is a guitar high 'E' string. That is only .0055 per side or wrapped around. A sheet of paper measures about .003 -.004". Wrapped around it's .006 - .008" to give you an idea how little we are talking about.

As little as it may seem, it's very important you don't 'pinch' the strings in their slots by leaving them too small. Also, the angles pointing to the fingerboard as well as the after lengths into the pegbox and towards the tailpiece are at least in my mind, important as well.

Did a nice little guitar trio (jazz) gig on them tonight. Beautiful sound. A real point on the quarter notes, you know? A real head on each note. To get that same thing happening on a Spiro, I really have to dig in. These strings spoke alot easier. On this gig, I would compare them to the LaBella Blacks (that Ron Carter uses). Very little effort to get that quarter note 'popping'. Much warmer than those Labellas, though. Much warmer.

Does anyone stock these in sets yet? I suppose the price for individuals from Lemur isn't exorbitant (if they have them), but it just seems like there should be some packaged sets somewhere.

Speaking of which, I have an old set of these on my Eberle and I like them better than Garbos here. A neat string if bowing's not a need.

I've got an Evah E and A coming my way from Shank Strings courtesy of Linda Shank. I think they may have a few more sets in stock. And I just got off the phone 15 minutes ago with Chris at Quinn Violins, who said they had just received 4 sets.

Both Linda and Chris were great to talk to. Give 'em a call!

Does anyone here know the stringtensions of the EPs? My Bass is very sensitive to stringtension. I figured out that Corelli Tx with Superflexible E moves the top best. But I would like to hear a little darker sound...

Another question to the classical players. Do you think the EPs are as usable for Solowork in Orchestratuning as the Corellis? Do Koussevitzky and Bottesini feel well with the Evahs?
