Double Bass Evah Pirazzi strings megathread part I

Now Francois; having decided these strings are not for you, you wouldn't by any chance like to distribute these to the great unwashed out here? :p

I could give a review and pass them along to the next opportunee. Actually an an A or D would suffice...I'd hate to be greedy :p :D

I'd rather send them (except the G which goes to Troy) all at once, to limit the shipping costs.

Let me first say that I usually lurk in the dark here on TB.
I love this site and this thread seems to be worth the effort,
you gents are very cool.

Obligatos have been my string of choice since their release,
Helicore symphonic heavy gauge before that,my hybrid bass likes it dark.All kinds of music to be played ,so a string that can handle arco/pizz is very important to me.
Obli's would for me last about 6 months of pretty hard playing and then kind of die.I am hoping these new Evah's
will last a little longer and that the G string will be more like
more meaty.

I recieved a set yesterday and will install them this morning.
Tonight I have a trio gig and Friday a hang with the great Chuck Traeger,so I will post my findings,along with some of Chuck's Monday or so.

ok,so real quick,some thoughts

they are darker than the obligatos,I really like this G.
They are stiffer in the left hand,not a bad thing and no roll in the right
Good balance across all strings,nice boom,boom pizz,
stabilize pitch pretty quick and the arco is more bass than cello...

Thank you, Francois. I promise to road test the G thoroughly and then post my impressions. If it doesn't stay on long for some reason, I promise to pass it along to someone else for a try.

In the interest of science. I'm just volunteering to be a tester. :-)

Actually, I've been leaning over the wagon railing for a few weeks now. A complete set of Jazzers have been on for almost a year and I actually still really like them. There is a whiney tone on the G and maybe the D when I'm playing with a band, not when I'm practicing or maybe playing duo, but through the mix, I got an opposite effect of when dark strings get lost in the mix.

So, I've been wanted darker and meatier on at least the G. I have a well worn OLIV, that I was thinking of pulling back out, but it can't have much time left on it, if any. And I've got some Flexicore '92s and a Flatchromsteel G that I was thinking about mixing in.

But frankly I was still staying fairly true until an opportunity to test a new Pirastro G string presented itself to me. I knew someone would call me on it. I know I deserve it.

...especially a synthetic core string.:D
