That is great news. They are a bit more expensive than Spirocores in the US, but I didn't think they would last near as long. I hope to get an idea what they sound like after this weekends gigs. One thing is for sure, the E may not be broken in, but its already considerably bigger sounding than the Superflexible I had on before. Definitely cool strings...

Just finished a gig in a rowdy, close to sold out, good sized (1500-2000 capacity) theater with the EP Weichs, and old Kay bass, a RS II and a mini brute. They sounded great. Loud, solid. The E felt kinda spongy, but the note really blossomed. I'm sold.

BTW, the gig was as the music for a burlesque show. What a riot.

You nail it so often. The only thing I know of that really chills out STD is more practice and playing...

I have been out of the TB loop.

Has there been much/any A/B discussion between the EP Weichs and BelCantos?

I am still among the Belcanto faithful, but of course, always looking over my shoulder for the Holy String Grail.

Still digging my BC's, but will the EP's smoke them, arco?

Do I really have to break down and spend the money, to find out, you know, "On my bass, with my bow, and my rosin"...:eek: ?

I admit that I fear the truth. Maybe I'll just try the G string...(this is how it starts...).

I'd like the try the solo EPs too, but did you try the solo Obligatos?
I like them much better than the regulars, and I suppose they'd last quite longer too, since they'd not be tuned at their full tension.
The tone is quite different between Oblis and EPs though.
The Oblis sound "dirtier", more growly.
The EPs are more flat.

I agree that the EPs have a flatter sound than oblis. I have solo EPs on a bass now. They are kind of dark sounding, sort of old school, kind of nice but I'm not sure they'll stay on. Haven't played out with them yet, maybe take them to the Chicago Bass Fest today and see how they do as the spiro G I have on the other bass is funky...

Just finished my second gig this weekend. These strings break in quick. I am very happy with them. They have a deep and full sound on my bass. The G is especially fat, but it doesn't sound perfect past the octave G in TP. A little choked sounding. However the whole set sounds so good for walking, and sits so nicely that they certainly aren't coming off the bass. Feel really great too...

Kind of an unexpected biproduct but I did a trio blues hit last night and we get pretty loud so I slapped the old Bassmax on. Never was a big fan. Kinda harsh sounding but able to get pretty loud without feedback. Never tried it with Evahs though. Low and behold a big lush warm sound. Even the drummer commented how huge the bass sounded. No idea why. Oh well. Ain't complaining.

That is interesting. I have thought of picking up a Bassmax for gigs where I need a bit more cutting power than the Fullcircle. I didn't know how it would respond though... Did you use it through the GK?

Evah Pirazzi Solo

Hello everyone, I would like your views.
I used some years Thomastik Spirocore Solo for solo and orchestra tuning (I have only one instrument) and in fact Spirocore have very sound, but was sick of the sound metallic. Then put the Evah Pirazzi Solo liked the sound, but I am afraid of losing some sound and sometimes it does not seem clear when I play a solo. It is due to string A1...Maybe my impression, because I do not know how it is heard in the distance. I know it also depends on the instrument, but like the sound woody, warm, but clear and very sound.
I have read a few durability issues and is bad, others say that last over 1 year ... I have thought of Original Flat Chromesteel or Permanent. I've tried Thomastik Belcanto Solo, but I prefer the Evah Pirazzi.
I look forward to hearing your views.

As I said before, I just got one double bass and only use strings solo tunning because it allows me to play tuning orchestra and solo tuning. I do not know if the Evah Pirazzi are good for this, but I like your sound. I play only classical music in this moment.

Have been playing on EP solos tuned down all week, jazz, and am really enjoying them. They're working well on my sometimes cantankerous old bass. As I said before, kind of dark on this fairly dark sounding instrument, but lots of punch as EPs are known for.

TMSP, you should email Pirastro and see if they can be tuned up and down regularly. The Velvet Compas 180 Suits are made for this.

They are looser feeling, have a wider excursion, but still have the characteristic EP sound. A nice thump with growl and a fullness I don't get with spiros. They are working nicely on my sometimes tighter feeling old bass, although I'd like to try a set of weichs on this one, too. EP Weichs work well for me on my Juzek/Wilfer bass giving it a smooth, darker sound. I have spiro mittels back on that bass now, and I'm really not digging them for their brightness and thinner sound compared to the EPs.

RShew, the solos seem to have decent volume, although I haven't had any other EPs on that bass. The only string comparable tension-wise in my experience are the Compas 180 Suits tuned down.
