Ever been in a wreck before?

I was in a car wreck when i was 7. A drunk driver T-Boned us (my mom, myself and my sister). I remember the paramedics freaking out because i was crying really hard. I wasn't hurt... i was just affraid the paramedics would give me a shot. :D

I've spent most of my adult life on bicycles and scooters though...

Bike - I was doored three times when i lived in DC.

Scooter - Hit some ice and loose gravel: concussion, broken wrist and puncture wound in my leg. I was also going home from getting tattooed, and a 16 year old girl in a brand new jetta T-boned me coming out of a 7-11; i ended up sprawled on her hood... angry, but not really hurt.

Ive been in a few bad ones:

T-boned in my 89 Chevy Silverado by a Minivan running a red light, almost rolled my truck, walked away with cuts & bruises
T-boned in my 95 Neon by an acura, pulled a muscle in my foot
Crashed my 2001 Frontier through a light post (uprooted that SOB) and onto a Fire Hydrant. That was the worst one, walked away with a bloddy/swollen eye.

A few others, but I dont feel like thinking about them...

I was a passenger with two other guys besides the driver in a car going downhill on a fairly curvy road, driver was drunk, over-compensated going around a curve, hit an embankment, sideswiped another vehicle, car spun around a couple of times, ended up downhill just short of ending up in acreek, car was totalled, no-one got badly hurt in either car other than some bruising and a bloody nose.
Driver got busted for DUI. (yes, he was an idiot.)
Lesson learned : Never get into a car with a drunk driver no matter how insistent he is that "S'OK, 'm goodtodrive. Hic!"
:rollno:

Three times shot down? Can you elaborate - there's sure to be stories in there.

Twice by .51 cal MG and once by RPG blowing off the tail as we were leaving an LZ. Long ago and far, far away by guys all named Charlie. And that's not counting hard "sit-downs" from blade hits and once running out of fuel (JP4) which was embarrassing but we were cushioned by crashing into bamboo.

I've been in some minor fender benders. The only thing close to a bad wreck was a long, long time ago. I was riding with a friend in his '61 Chevy. He managed to lose control of it and the car rolled end-over-end one and a half times with a half twist thrown in for good measure. The car stopped on it's side and we walked out through where the windshield once was. Seat belts were almost unheard of and never used in those days. I had a small bump on my head and that was the only "injury" between us. The car didn't have a place on it more than a foot long that wasn't dented.

We hit left headlight to left headlight, both going about 45. He REALLY wanted some sonic, I guess.

Holy crap that looks like it hurt. And I thought I was sore...

-WALL OF TEXT- ...And my wife wonders why I`m such a cautious driver now.

My dad's got a lot of "glory days" stories haha, but my telling them really doesn't do them justice. He ran into the back of a pickup once on a motorcycle and broke the back window out of the thing with his body, ended up all sprawled out in the back of the truck lol but he was fine. You're both freakin' supermen. :smug:

I've been in four major car wrecks, six minor car wrecks, two motorcycle wrecks, and I fell out of a helicopter once. I can't recommend the experience. But only required surgical repair from the helicopter incident. The last car wreck was 22 years ago.

Haha signature-worthy. That's a lot of crash experience. How badly were you injured in the helicopter incident? Surgery is not a good thing...

Wow man that is incredible... I don't even know what to say, I can't imagine doing that.

You guys certainly trumped my measly little wreck! I guess the next time I crash a vehicle I have to make it extraordinarily dangerous and exciting.

I'm glad we're all still alive.

Four of us got dumped out the left-hand side at about forty-ish feet and probably no more thanthirty five knots. The good news is that we were still over water for a few more feet, so we didn't hit as hard as we would have on say, cement. The less good news is that if you're going fast enough on water, you skip like a rock. And we were almost back over solid ground. So I landed on water, water, water, water, water, sand, rocks, and dirt...in very fast succession. I had a spectacular assortment of bumps and bruises, a few surprisingly minor lacerations and abrasions...and a completely dislocated right shoulder. The surgery was to put my shoulder back together.

One of the other guys was hurt quite a bit more than I was. He broke both legs. It kind of annoyed me that he was back to full duty status before I was.

Twice. Rolled a 77 vette on the highway back in 1986 with my girlfriends daughter standing up in the passenger seat she was 2 I was 22 and stupid. :scowl: I was in the far left lane closest to the median that seperates northbound southbound traffic. A chevelle pulled up on my passenger side and was edging me on, so off we went, not even thinking about the kid next to me. :( I drifted left and hit the median it seemed like a long time that we were sliding upside down cause I had enough time to ask God if anyone was going to die let it be me. I was holding Laurens head really tight next to my chest she was screaming so that gave me some comfort that she was still alive. The car finally stopped and we were still upside down. The battery compartment is right behind the drivers seat and I could smell the battery acid and did not want us to get burned. I managed to get the drivers door open and crawled out with Lauren. A couple stopped and set up a flare, we waited in the back seat of there car untill an ambulance showed up. The EMT's were checking us out and took us to the hospital. We did not have any serious injuries, she had brusing on the side of her head from my fingers were I was holding her. My shirt had battery acid burns on it. We went home that same day. There were no charges I was sober the other driver never came forward, my girlfriend and I stayed together another 3 years. Insurance money was enough to replace the car with another 77 vette. which I still have but dont drive. Lauren is now 26 and is fine. We were very lucky that night.

The second time, was back in 1988 it was on a friday the 13th. I was getting ready to go home from work when one of the servers told me to becareful you know what tonight is dont you? I told her I dont believe in that crap and headed home. The last thing I remember thinking was watching David Letterman when I get home and adjusting the radio, I did not see it coming I was not wearing a seat belt. I was in a '77 audi hatchback. The drunk driver ran a stop sign and swung to far right into my lane and hit me head on drivers side. A neighbor who was watching tv said the crash shook his windows and ran down to help me out I stayed concious thru the whole thing he managed to pry the door open and get me out of the car untill the ambulance showed up.I could not see anything cause I had debris and blood in my eyes from when my head hit the steering wheel, both me and the guy that hit me rode the same abulance and all he kept saying was oh my god oh my god man im so sorry im so sorry im praying for you man I told him ok thats fine. I heard a female voice one of the emts im sure and asked if I could hold her hand...i was on theback board neck stabiliser and I am sure some pretty good pain relief drugs for the ride to the hospital. Cause I could not feel a thing. Anyways long story short. Injuries included broken left arm with exposed bone, forhead laceration which required staples my head is still numb in that area, debris in eyes, facial fractures, dislocated left hip, and torn right patella muscle(Knee cap) they told me that my knee cap was on the side of my leg. they first said that they may have to give me an artificial knee but at the time I was working out and had enough muscle to work with they were able to tighten the muscle and bring the knee cap back in place. My knee is still very swollen I have a really long scar on it I can only bend my knee so far, the scar on my forhead has faded quite a bit. I have pics of both cars if I can figure out a way to post them I will. :)
