A lot of things sucked before the internet. No way to find out much of anything. Basically the yellow pages or the library or word of mouth. Everything took way too long. Be glad that you can learn about and enjoy any time period you like.
Good point, although I think the internet has as many disadvantages as advantages. For one, I think things like Instant Messages and social networking sites, (I guess you could throw text messages into this category too,) are keeping younger people from learning to really communicate, and have basic, human interaction.
Again, I was born in 90, so I was the first generation to experience AOL Instant Messenger and such, around the age of 12 or so. I think we were the last ones to escape the "technological age." Kids that grew up chatting online at 5 or 6 years old, (yes I've witnessed it

), are going to be much less social IMHO.
Also, I think the internet is as bad for music as it is good. Obviously the rantings of "the internet allows people to steal music" in the late 90's by Lars Ulrich and company are false, but I've seen bands on Myspace that have never played a show ever, but have 1,000 plays a day on their myspace. They sell t-shirts, cd's, and stickers, and make a decent chunk of change through their "devoted fan base," all online.
When you see one of these bands finally play live, they don't move, they watch their hands, and they're just complete statues. There's no showmanship at all.
So while the speed of communication provided by the internet is great, I think it has it's downsides too.
