Ever thought of doing this - where am I going wrong ?

I could really use a P AND J on this a project BUT not thrilled with my Fender American Jazz Deluxe ( older model ) OR my Fender P/J passive for either alone all night and don't want to carry both.

I was thinking - how far off the traditional placements could mounting both jazz pickups AND a Precision pickup be - a few mm.? I bet I could live with it. So, independently wired to output jack - two output jacks maybe, share one vol and tone control maybe ? I've got guitars with crazier wiring schemes.

A custom build with maybe the whole shebang covered as in ramped ? Who would do it - Sadowsky ? Where'd I lose my mind here?

I have a CIJ P bass that I got used....

A previous owner tried to convert it into a 5 string, and I've been thinking of making this my project bass.

I'm thinking of getting a jazz neck since I like the thinner profile.

But for the pups, routing it out for a jazz in the neck, the p in it's original spot, and a MM in the bridge with a coil tap so I can get that thin jazz sound if needed...

I think that would be the best of all possible situations....

So - what is the downside to an Urge II ?

I didnt really follow your wiring scheme, but my Valenti ( #067) is routed for both P ( and reverse P) and J. Nino does that sort of thing all the time. Pricing is close to the Urge II.

well what i was getting at was that the URGE II reviews were not very encouraging, reviewers opining that the sound just wasn't there for any number of real or imagined factors so I wondered what a custom builder could accomplish that Fender perhaps could not with first rate wood, pickups, and optimized wiring.

In other words; can a real dual bass be made that meets the objective of a separate Jazz bass and P bass in one body that gets as close to those icons as can be gotten with a full on effort or should I just forget about it?
