Ever write off an entire brand?

EHX, I just keep hearing they crap out on you.

While they are certainly not as “sturdy” or apocalypse proof as Boss, I’ve never had an EHX pedal crap out on me, and I’ve been using them since the early 90’s. From the vintage stuff right up to my daily use of the Oceans 11 has been nothing but reliable. I’ve heard some horror stories though...

Well, I will say that I'm a total fanboy of their Way Huge line, but their 3-lettered line leaves me disappointed every time.

I know that people swear by them so I don't want to draw anyone's ire.
MXR QC sucked big time recently. The MXR Vintage bass octave had a missing attenuator, the dyna comp clips and the thump preamp apparently has a clipping issue also. (Mini putt hand claps.)

Also note that the customer service I got towards the VBO was terrible. They tried tp convince me it was « a normal noise » and I was the problem cuz I did not know how to use it. JEEZ it was a freakin helicopter through my amp.
They changed the way they treated me really fast when I disassembled the pedal to show them the missing component. AND STILL CHARGED ME TO SHIP THE DEFECTIVE PEDAL TO THEM!!!!!!
(All this is documented in the VBO thread.)

3 strikes. You’re out.

I really like the m85 though (bass distortion)

I guess I wrote off Gibson basses (not guitars) a long time ago. I know individual basses like the T-Bird or EB style have their proponents, but I've never picked up a Gibson bass that wasn't terminally neck heavy, or in the case of a Victory, a Boat Anchor. Too bad too, because the Victory is otherwise a pretty nice bass. Does that count as "writing off"? They never really enter my mind as an option, so I guess it does count. The famous "quick removal headstock" feature, with huge headstock, short grain mahogany, and no volute, which they insist on repeating despite the fact that even the most hack carpenter could tell you what a bad design that is, makes me think they really don't care about the longevity of their instruments, and don't have much interest in basses period. Meh.

I don’t really cotton to Gibson’s either. Would have loved to loved the EBO, but found it weird in feel and was never a fan of the mudbucker sound.

You can say MXR. It's not North Korea and you're not bashing Kim. Different strokes. I use all my MXR pedals. The bass filter is great compared to my more expensive Pigtronix but then again, I have few pedals.

Back to your topic.... Joyo maybe. - They maybe better now but I had bad experience. I wrote off also brands I can't afford like Fodera etc, so I don't look or GAS for them. Saves me time.

Im this way with strings. But that could also have to do something with my lack of knowledge of all the differences. Other than flats and rounds the differences have to be hype and fanboyism right? Yea I know I'm wrong
