From now on, I will just assume everyone, including me, is "mental"!

They don't turn their damn lights on when driving in the dark or rain, because they're mental.

They talk on the phone while while negotiating difficult traffic, because they're mental.

They wear their hats sideways indoors, because they're mental.

I do things that are mental too, like using the Metric system, removing my hat indoors, and not talking on the phone in difficult traffic.

I also use rhyming slang where it's clearly not understood, because I'm mental!

I'm also mental enough to post topics in this forum, which I should have learned by now is a great way to get ganged up on about nothing.

Today is your one year anniversary of joining TB. You are experiencing emotions brought about by no one noticing until now.

Happy anniversary!

Now, reinvent yourself for the sake of longitivtiy. Pause for a half second before hitting the post button, something I still struggle with. Question whether or not the post you are about to plaster here is either warranted or will be used as chum for the sharks.

Try not to post while drunk. If you do, add a wink Emoji behind every sentence;).

Again, I like you. If that isn't enough, I can't help.

Wow, I hadn't even noticed that. I joined originally just to ask a question on a thread I found here via gOOgle. I can't remember the topic now, maybe about the Fender Blacktop line.

I remember telling myself a while back that I wasn't going to get involved in the Off Topic sub-forum, because I was trying to be pragmatic, and not do things that waste a lot of time.

I'm mental though, so here I am.

I also enjoy turning my lights on, while driving, at the first sign of dusk, or even in light rain.

Lights make it so people can see. Why wouldn't you want your lights on when it's dark or raining?
Oh wait, back to the topic. I can't ask if people are mental. That might be construed as breaking the rules, so I will just assume it.

The "mental" thing works great for Feces Book and social media too.

If you just assume everyone else is "a few bricks short of a full load", everything is just so much easier.

We can't know everyone's individual shortcomings, so assuming that they have cognitive disabilities goes a long way.

I made the mistake one day of not assuming this, in a conversation with a person with Asperger's. I really embarassed myself that day.

Luckily I'm naked in the middle of the room, and the sunlight is illuminating the room.
So, I guess I'm not fully mental just yet.
When starts to get dark, I'll turn on the light in the corner, but leave it on, until bedtime.

When something is making you crazy, sometimes the logical thing to do is walk away. In my ten years here, I've sometimes left for months at at time. No rage quit, no need to start a thread to tell anyone I'm walking away. I just.....do it. I was gone almost six months one time. When I feel like it, I come back.

I don't post my true feelings on Feces Book, or other social media, any longer. I was losing "friends".
I've probably gotten myself on some ignore lists here too, but it's not as apparent.

I want to do that, and it might take a rage quit to do it, LOL.
Maybe playing more will help me vent my grumpiness in a good way.

No, don't quit. Just change your priorities.

When I first started playing a few years ago, I obessesed about gear, tone, feel, etc. But fortunately, I made it a mission to practice at least 2-3 hours per day. I'm using the arbitrary '10,000 hours to mastery' rule of thumb.

After about 3 years, I've gotten to the point that more happiness comes from hearing my playing really improve as opposed to just hearing the amp or bass itself. I have a few really nice Ampegs but I end up practicing several hours a a day with a little Fender 15B and an drum app or playing along with mp3s or YouTube.

No BS. Commit yourself to 3 hours of hard focused practiced per day for at least a month. No TB, no TV, no FB, no anything else. Just you, your bass, and a clean amp at low volume for 3 hours a day for a month. Study and apply proper technique regardless of how bad it sounds or how hard and awkward it is. Record yourself on the first day, the record on the last day. You'll be shocked at how much you will have improved.

Just make the commitment.

That's not me. I wear socks.

Are you wearing them right now? ;) Don't be afraid to answer I'm not mental or anything. ;)

You should see some of the stuff I write before I pause for a moment ;) ...... on second thought.... I may be mental. ;)

I once made a great plan, for each hour of the day, then halfway through the day, like right now, I realized how much time I'd wasted.
I'm going to do it one of these days, starting tomorrow. :woot:

I suppose it comes down to what makes you happier, learning to playing bass really well or conversing with people online.

The former takes thousands of hours of focused concentration and hard work. The latter, you can do on the toilet.

You do know that up to a point you can change your mental state by imitating physical attitudes and actions that are associated with happiness and positivity.

Thinking about positive or funny things can create endorphins and other effects that make you feel better.

Concentrating on the things that bother you and that you don't like in others (in other words, yourself) create a viscous circle instead of a virtuous one.

Exercise, lay off the sauce or cut down, and stop focusing on the negative all the bloody time and I guarantee you will not only live longer and healthier, you will enjoy the company of other humans more, and forgive them more often for being human, as that is their only sin.

I'm assuming you are not suffering from depression, but simply from a case of being a cranky old curmudgeon.
