EWS BMC!!!

Hey All,

Got this off of Ebay over a week ago, and finally got around to trying it out last night. WOW. I got this for a Warwick that I'll have soon, as it only has a 2-band eq.

My current, and soon-to-be backup bass, is an Ibanez Prestige BTB. It has a 3-band Bart circuit (the real US one), so no real need for it to need the BMC pedal, but I needed to test it out. My Ibanez sounds great, as is, so I plugged it into the pedal, and made the mid knob flat on the bass. I usually have the on-board mid cranked, so that's what I did on the pedal's level control, and then set the frequency.

Oh. My. God. THIS PEDAL WILL MAKE YOUR BASS GROWL AND ROAR LIKE NOTHING ELSE. HOLY CRAP. I have a tone now, that is a crisp, modern, and completely in-your-face monstrous. It sounds cliche, but it's like this thing took a blanket off of my sound! The frequency knob has such a wide range, and is VERY sensitive, so if you can't find your mid tone here, then you won't find it. I have mine set at around 2:00, and if you go all the way to the left, the mids go into serious low-mid mode, and combined with the bass band from your bass/amp, will rattle the f**king walls. I was impressed by how solidly this thing is built, too...got some weight for how small it is! Oh, and to get the most out of this pedal, use it with an 18-volt adaptor (more headroom).

Hi SW21 (and anyone else who knows this pedal)

How wide is the Q band width on this thing? Is it narrow or wide? If you set it at 11 o'clock (500hz according to the manual) and use the full 12db volume boost of that frequency how far either side of 500hz will be effected?

In general are graphic eq's much narrower than knob styled eq systems? Is there an average bandwidth to go by or is each manufacturer different? I had a look at the Ibanez site at their SR300. According to the diagram if you dime the mid knob it puts roughly 600hz to almost 10db and effects everything up to 5khz and down to 80hz. I dont imagine this to be a typical eq bandwidth (especially for a graphic).

From the description above it sounds like the BMC is quite wide. Does anyone know or have an idea of how 12db at 500hz on this pedal would effect the surrounding frequencies or can give me some better insight on fixed eq bandwidth in general?

I can't answer the specific question about how wide the q is, other than to say it's just right. As OP has stated this pedal is a little monster. You can get virtually any sound you want from it. Whatever the Q is, it just works like no other eq pedal I've tried. Every bassist should have one!

great pedal. use it a lot.. its dirty-ish on 9 volt but very clean and lots of headroom when powered with 18 volts...also great for cutting frequencies when i use it with my active bass that has mid boost..
