Double Bass Excellent 1/2 or 1/4 sized DB?

If you were in New England I'd say look for an old church bass. They can be found, but usually require major work. I've got a half size that's been in pieces for years, but I think if I ever get it back together it will sound great. I think it's at least 150 years old.

Renting sounds like a great idea to see if a 1/2 size flairs up the injury. You definitely want a 1/2 over a 1/4 if you can manage it. I have both sizes in my middle school inventory and the 1/2 sizes can really have a decent sound given the right circumstances.

It's encouaging to know there are some good smaller (1/2 size) DBs out there! I started looking into the possibility of renting - and the only potential merchants seem to be doing poorly in this economy and do not have stock to rent. I may need to go the online route to rent - I sure hate to do that. Nathan you planted the idea of my checking with some of our middle school teachers for references for rentals.
