Exercise enthusiasts and wannabees only !!!

Happy new year y’all! I thought at this time of reflection and resolution I’d share my thoughts…

My body is cranky! I’ve been neglecting mobility and stretching. I’m gonna flip my routine where yoga is my baseline, and add on my weights and calisthenics maybe 3x a week, see how I feel.

I also wanted to share this site, tons of cool body weight workouts:
https://darebee.com/workouts.html?start=20

I had gotten into a bad habit of snacking after the kids are put to bed. So 2-3 weeks ago, I resolved to jump on the exercise bike for 20 minutes instead. I’m not working hard at that time; but it’s a little movement, curbs the cravings and energizes me for practicing afterwards! I can even watch lesson videos on the bike and get inspiration :)

Wife and oldest son are doing the 1000 hours outside challenge, so we’re going to be out a lot which I like. (I’m usually the one dragging them out!)

So what about you? What do you hope and envision for new years?

10 bucks at the thrift store! I have a bulky, seemingly homemade one that came with the house sitting in the basement, but never found a good spot for it. So I’m pretty stoked about this!

after years of false starts due to physical issues, i am several months into continuous workouts. yes, i still have some issues, but i'm working around them fairly successfully, and while progress isn't fast, i'm seeing definite increases in strength, muscle and endurance that is pretty exciting.
That's great!

Fitness is one of those things where slow and steady really does win the race.

I had one myself they work great with proper technique ie slow and steady if you do any forced reps with leg kicking it will cause it to hop off the ledge word of caution :)

Progress is progress. I had to make myself understand this.
I got caught up comparing myself to others progressing faster than me, or perhaps my younger and healthier self. That totally wasn't fair to me.
I still wrestle with it in my mind because I am hypercompetitive, and believe there is only one winner, everyone else is the loser in a contest.

I didn't have too much problem with the unbolded part, but the bolded part snared me as well. I have a picture of me with my wife right after we married on my desk. The guy in the picture has darker hair and beard, weighs about 190 with barely 10% body fat, and has shoulders for days. Whatever happened to that guy???

i just love to work out, and i've missfed it.

but it's hard for me to comprehend during a workout how limited i am. last thursday, i picked up the pace of my exercise bike riding, and the next day, my left knee hurts in 2 places, and one of the scars in my thigh swelled up. i'm taking a few days off, darn it.

the thing is, i don't have pain from reinjuries until the next day, so it's hard to gauge when to up the resistance or speed of an exercise.

I’ve settled into a new routine, and been maintaining this since mid January. I do a hybrid of yoga and calisthenics, 3 times a day for 10 minutes. I love how I can get a blend and balance of cardio, strength, balance and stretching all in one stop. I can do it anywhere and the schedule ensures I fit it in my day. I can also adapt the intensity easily to reflect what’s going on in my day and maintain consistency.

Beyond that, I’m walking 30 minutes minimum, starting to intentionally add hill walks and weight in a backpack.

My son also signed up for track for the second round, coming up this spring- so he’ll be making me do some runs and drills soon! :woot:

I'd be careful to find some studs and secure that door trim with some screws into them. The usual 8 penny finishing nails aren't something I'd want to rely on.

Good call! Didn’t even think of that. Honestly it didn’t stay in that spot long. My wife hit her head on it, cussed me out and it’s been in the basement waiting for a new spot to present itself! But as I mentioned earlier I’ve got a routine I’m happy with so not too broken up about it
