Explain the Fender Bass VI

I think it's because us bass players are more likely to 'go with the flow.'

Come to think of it, how did E-e become the 'standard' for guitars and not fourths?
It's very simple, E, A, D, G, B, E puts most of the notes of a major chord on the same fret. Raising the top two to make it all 4ths would nearly require two extra fingers to play a chords.

Well, as far as the Cool Rails go, it is sort of a clean, scooped sound, that is quiet. Vintage Rails are another good choice, but they sound more like clean single coils (and are quieter, too).

Thank you for the advice. I won't know if I want to make any upgrades for a little while. I'm mainly just trying to rebuild my chops, get better with theory and songwriting and potentially learn how to play guitar.

Thoughts on replacing the stock bridge with a Mustang bridge. Trying to find a 9.5 radius but they all seem to be 7.25. Anybody know if there are 9.5 Mustsngss available? The new Classic Vibe VI with the Indian Laurel fingerboard has a Mustang bridge, but I don't know if they changed the neck radius.

But a number of guitarists MISTAKENLY believe that bassists are failed guitarists!
Definitely mistaken
You can’t fail at something if you never bothered with it :)
Judging how obsessed certain bassists are with distancing themselves from all things guitar, one would think bassdom is rife with not so much failed as repressed guitarists in self-denial... ;)

Why is this negative? I AM a failed guitarist. And i failed because i am a bass player. To my feeling the bass has actually more musical possibilities than the guitar, especially if You try to transfer techniques from the guitar.

Which leads to the bass VI or exotic concepts like the 6 string tuned in 5th (btw, see below) in a natural manner.

Look at what I went and bought this weekend!!

Looks alot like mine. Congrats. Coupla things. You may need to turn the bridge upside-down to be able to adjust the intonation right., and the adjustment is done with a metric Allen wrench. Looks like you fared better than me for strings, mine had been sitting in the store a while so I put on a set of Labella round woundsand like them, but that's just my taste. Enjoy!

I think Staytrem offers a replacement that I've heard work nicely. It's a 9.5 radius.

It played pretty good right out of the box, the intonation was pretty close and the only issue I have with it is just the string tension (which I will remedy with new strings relatively soon). I'm hoping against hope that Squier used the 'updated bridge' for the mustang on all the models with use compatitble parts. I won't know for sure until I restring it and dial in the set up.

I'll be sure to keep you guys posted

I didn't even know there was such a thing as Bass Guitar when I had picked up my mom's Kay acoustic & started playing song riffs of that time ("We've Got To Get Out Of This Place" was the 1st thing I figured out - a bass line, but I didn't know!). I had just started playing Tuba then, while singing Bass in the school's choirs. Guess I've always been an F-clef kinda guy!

Is it a guitar? Is it a bass? Who plays these things and in what settings? What's up with the whammy? I've never seen these things in person, but they show up in my Reverb feed and I'm curious

I think this vid of the Eastwood Sidejack VI gives a good example of what a Bass VI (regardless of brand) can be used for.

I finally got around to restringing my Bass VI. I used a custom set from Stringjoy and I was able intonate the bridge with no issues!!

However, I have decided that the tuning keys are gonna be the first thing that gets upgraded. I saw on stewmac's website that they have set of inline 'kluson' style tuners that look like they would be a direct replacement ([Invalid or Expired Link Removed]).

Does anyone have any experience with these tuners and I would have to do any additonal work (reaming/drilling)?

Wasn't 'Witchita Lineman' played on a Danelectro, not a Bass VI? Regardless, I've always loved that sound.

But more pertinent to this thread, does a Bass VI sound similar to a Danelectro? Or are they markedly different tonal flavors, like the differences in the sound of a Strat and a Les Paul?
The story is that Glen Campbell borrowed the Danelectro from Carol Kaye for the session. On the TV show, however, he appears to "finger synching" with a Fender Bass VI.
