Avatars and their proper format was just being discussed in another thread in which I disagreed a bit with the OP, but no matter, as by his standards, my avatar would be acceptable, as it is simply, me.

my avatar is me, playing at a gig, thinking about whether or not the guitar player knows his parts, and whether the drummer is aware that he rushed his last fill, and whether i should cue the keyboard player for his solo, and whether the horn players are really trying to play well or whether they're just waiting for the next break. but as you can clearly see from my avatar: i am very sure that the three women sitting together in the front row are interested in my playing!
And on a highly similar note, mine is a picture of two of my musical heroes: The Man in Black and Joe Strummer.
Mine is the Swedish cartoon character "Bamse". He's the world's strongest bear when he eats "Dunderhonung" (Thunder honey), which his grandma cooks up in the house on the High Mountain.
His credo is "If you're very strong, you need to be very kind", and he's always helping the the less able out. That's kind of me, or at least what I'd like to be thought to be.

It IS in fact, Andrew Weil. We went to a presentation he gave and went up to get my picture with him. I'm a smidge taller and definitely have bigger bones. But otherwise, he could be from my family. I trim my beard back considerably now. But when Melanie said "Look! It's you! But old." It was a lot like his, but brown and red, not grey and white.

Sort of self explanatory. I was born on an Air Force base (Roswell AAFB); grew up on them, then joined up at 17. I served for 24 years, then "retired" (generals can actually retire if they want; but sargents can't). I've never actually been a civilian... what's it like?
Well, for one thing, civilian life is often not very civil. You've probably discovered that already.
