A Hamer Blitz comes to mind , mine is one of the best sounding basses I own . Here is a picture of my 1976 Ibanez Destroyer , I bought it new!

The small run of new Ibanez Destroyers released in 2015 were beautiful--mahogany grain visible instead of an '80s paint job. They were going for around $450 so probably worth the effort to find a used one, or NOS still in a store somewhere.
