Squire installs wimpy tuners. They had to go.
After:
Since then, I've added a bridge cover to dress it up.

Or, go to a local sign shop, and have them make one for you. Shouldn't cost too much, especially if you can find a useable version of the logo online, or are able to take a hi-res pic and give it to them.

This build has inspired me to finally refinish (pun intended

Looks totally badass under the lights!!! The pups are invisible; exactly the effect you were looking for. I'll bet some bassists and guitarists in the audience think it has piezo pickups. How's it sound live? Congrats, man.

It is a very edgy tone. I really have to roll back the highs. It was a very fun project and now sounds way better.
You need a set of Orange Coveralls next time you gig with that thing... and maybe a Ventilator Mask and safety Goggles! Looks Great!

Something Borderline Offensive
Two Comments:
1) Just read through this thread and I'm absolutely inspired by your effort and product. Really, really well done, and thank you so much for chronicling it for us.
2) You must be huge. That bass looks absolutely tiny in your hands.

2. I think it's the picture. I'm a stocky guy. Now, I know when some people say the word, "stocky", they mean, "Fat". I have a weird body with high fat potential, but I keep it in check. As my drummer once told me, "You're not a fat guy, just an incredibly thick dude." I'm only 5'10", so the angle and my width makes the bass look small.
On a side note, this bass absolutely rocks. I've found that soloing the bridge makes the bass punch through any mix with a nice mid/low frequency. The strings have mellowed, but still sound great and throaty.
I really don't use the neck pickup. It's nice to have it, but it rarely gets used.
If you're going to ever upgrade an Ibanez, beef up the bridge pickup. A world of difference.
