The Conklin GT7's are an excellent value bass with good construction qualities. We can all argue whether the BDGT7's are better than the regular GT7's, or vice versa, but both are more than worth the asking price. And at $400?? I'd do that in a heartbeat ...

Going to agree here. It's a GREAT sounding bass. Feels solid, comfortable neck.

In terms of basses, I know it's not the best you will ever see, but I haven't played in a band setting for over 10 years. It's an Ibanez sr506, sounds great for $600 and gives me room to grow. I plan on adding a Modulus Q6, Fodera 6, or a Zon 6 in the coming years. I am just now getting back into playing extended range and it's tough. My lifestyle at 32 is not conducive to playing in a band, so I will probably make some home recordings just to pass my time. Anyway, I'd love to be included!

I was wondering if anyone here tunes their six string like a guitar (EADGBE) but an octave lower. I've tried a Bass VI and couldn't get along with the string spacing, but I think it would be better on a standard six.

I ask because I'm thinking about getting a nylon string guitar and I thought it would be good if I could have my bass and guitar practice and playing reinforce each other. On the other hand, some guitar chords would be pretty difficult to replicate on the bass and probably wouldn't sound good that low, so I'm not sure its worth removing the regularity of the fourths tuning. Any thoughts?

Nothing is impossible @sgroh87, but on the lower end chords, there is little doubt that they would end up sounding extremely muddy. TIFWIW, but chords that low would sound bad. I think tuning up would also require some brute force adjustments to the instrument as a whole. I will wait for a genius to chime in here, I am not by any means an expert of truss rods, bridges, or general bass setup. Haha

There are a lot of guys that tune EADGBE on a 6, or BEADGBE on a 7 for exactly the reason you describe. Some bassists are former guitar players or double on guitar and feel more comfortable with that tuning.

I don't tune that way (I use 4th's) but I do play chords regularly, just further up the neck to give more clarity to the voicing.

The good thing about ERB's is the ability to experiment a little bit ... :cool:

Could I get a number? I posted my bass earlier in the thread.

EDIT: And if it's all right, could I be number 187.5, for posting my bass between 187 and 188? :D I guess I should've asked for a number then, but saying "here is bass, number plz" sounded...caddish, in my head.
