Double Bass Extension Cabinet for AI Contra

I've toyed with the idea of pulling the head out of my AI SIII Contra combo. Has anybody done this? My guess is that it will not workout because if pulled out the amp will not have sufficient covering/shielding around it. It'll just be the face of the amp and then the guts of it being exposed to the elements. Any thoughts or experience with this?

You can't do that. The preamp and power amp sections are separate in the amp, and the housing on the amp holds it all together. I was at the factory and Rick showed me the setup. If you pulled it all apart you'd have to buy a case for it, and then it would be a royal pain in the butt to put it back together again (and taking it apart would also be a pain).

I've tried lots of cabs with my Contra. For upright, the best combination is definitely the Contra paired with an Acme Low B-1. .

I can't say it's the best because I have not tried all the others, but I've been extremely please with the Acme B-1 (4 ohm) as an extension for my Series III Coda. The two cabinets complement each other very well. I still can hear my Coda when I use the Acme with it, yet I get all the volume I could possibly want when the situation demands it.

Thanks for the feedback with regards to pulling a SIII head out of the contra combo. I obviously will NOT be attempting this feat. I think I'm just going to save for a Focus head for the larger gigs. I love the AI "sound" and it's a great amp to put on top of a 4x10 to play an electric through. I think I'd like the sheer power that the Focus could provide if I ran it at 4 ohms through a full stack.
