coming back to the extended neck thing, what do you guys think of installing pickups directly into a neck on a bolt-on? (the fingerboard would obviously be shorter than the neck)
I'm currently building a g****r, and i'm having this dilemma about how long my neck pocket should be and how far from the neck/fingerboard the pickups should be.
One thing I miss in this discussion is the location of the bolts. The idea is very realizable, as a whole, but you should consider a head adjusted truss and:
You will only need one, single bolt close to the bridge. And not very close, in the middel of the body will do fine. Its purpose is simply to aviod backbending of the body when the strings are off. Other times, the strings will do that trick.
At the headmost end of the body, you will need more bolts, because they must counteract the tension in the strings.
Three or four at the top and one in the very middle of the body would do great. But most viewers would say it looks rediculous - that's what they said about Leonardo's parachute, too...
