Extra sensory freaky stuff?

You get used to waking at the same time every day - and you will wake more accurately than you think.

I remember in the late 60's I used to ALWAYS wake up just about 30 seconds before my clock radio came on. I thought that was really odd until I woke up a few minutes early one day, and discovered that my radio make a quiet but distinct "click" when the timer triggered it on, but it was a tube radio so it took about 30 seconds for the tubes to warm up.

So all it took for me to wake up was the click!

There could be other things happening that wake you at the same time each morning - it doesn't take much.

It's also possible that you check the clock that's visible from the bed while you're asleep.

My girlfriend does stuff like this all the time - if I come to bed way later, when she's sleeping soundly, she might open her eyes, say something and then just drop back to sleep. When I ask if I woke her up, on the following morning, she's just "no, I didn't even notice you coming to bed, why?".

No- I'll check the time in the kitchen or on my cell phone, go crash on the couch where there is no clock visible or even in the room for that matter, & wake up exactly when I need to.
I usually set an alarm if I really need to get up, but I have not been awaken by one for years.

About the waking up thing... yeah, people have a very efficient body clock. Also, your brain is still working, albeit slowly, while you sleep, so it's possible to react to events, and even form memories, while asleep. The memories tend to just be short-term, so remembering events up to five minutes before your dogs actually wake you up is quite possible. You might not have been capable of conscious thought in those five minutes, but the human mind is amazingly capable of ignoring things it can't perceive.

I can make the same boast peaveyuser does... I can even be away from home for days, without any discomfort.

I can predict some music too- I also memorise music so fast, I can predict about five seconds ahead with total accuracy even if it's only the second time I've heard the song.

This is something a little different. This happened to me last Friday evening after work.

There's a girl I see on the subway almost everyday on my way to work. She's very pretty; she looks like a younger Eva Longoria.

She and I both get on at the same station, but she only takes the train one stop, then gets off.

Lately, we've been playing the check out game: She catches me looking at her, gives a half smile as if to say, thank you for thinking that I'm pretty, then looks away and either begins reading something or pretends to check her cell phone.

Then, I look up from what I'm reading only to see her looking at me, and as you would guess, the moment I look up at her, she quickly looks away pretending she wasn't looking at me.

We can only play this game for a few moments, because as I said, she's only on the train for a couple of minutes.

After she gets off the train, that's it. I don't think about her until I see her the next morning, and then the game begins again.

So, Friday evening after work, I'm on my way to a mall to do some Christmas shopping. I'm deep in thought thinking about something work-related, and...

BANG !!!

Out of nowhere, a picture of her face appears in my mind.

I said to myself, "Why did I just think about her?"

About 5 seconds later, she walks out of the mall just as I'm walking in!

There's no way I could have seen her before I thought of her, and I'm pretty sure she didn't see me. She just kept walking on her way.

It was just very freaky, and to tell you the truth, it scared me for a moment. It was a very strange feeling.

Has anything like this ever happened to anyone else?

Mike

You can brush it off as a "body clock" thing to an extent, but what about occurances that aren't as predictable as waking up? For example, we've all had that sensation where we know the phone is just about to ring a few moments before it actually does? Or what about that instinctive feeling that someone in the room is looking at you, and you magically turn your gaze directly at them?

From where I'm standing, you're doing the brushing off labeling things as "supernatural", or so it sounds.

Phone: If you've ever had your phone sitting next to your stereo, you'll know that the stereo will pick up the waves and start playing back signals before the phone rings. It's quite probable that our body has a way to intercept those signals too.

As for someone looking at you, IMHO it's a simple explanation. People are curious. No matter the situation, if you're in a room with someone, you will look at them and they will look at you. You "feeling someone looking at you" is probably just the experience of knowing that when someone is close they will be looking at you and you at them.

So I guess you've never had that feeling where someone across the room is looking at you, so you look around and sure enough someone is.
Once I was in the car stopped at the traffic lights on a three lane road. I had this weird feeling that someone was looking at me, I looked to my left and on the far lane was a very cute girl sitting in the back of a car looking at me, she gave me a smile as the light turned green and that was that.

There was no way that I could have spotted her out of the corner of my eye and looked, or simply thought "hey there is a car over there, I bet the person is looking at me".

You know, in Biology class you learn that the human body has 5 senses. You probably simply heard the car pull up, smelt the gas, whatever.

Feel free to see supernatural, or the 'unexplained' everywhere you go if it makes you feel better to think that the world's a great big ball of uncertainty and there a magical thing to it. As far as I'm concerned, people satisfy themselves with this and it gives them a reason to stop questioning everything, as they in their right mind should.

How many times have you had the feeling that somebody was looking at you, turned around and realized that nobody was looking at you? ;)
