Why didn't they just find a used Vox Phantom" Weird
I wouldn't want to own it, although it might appeal to the "my bass has to be the lightest thing since balsa wood" group, the neck dive contingent may be turning up their nose.
Peter Cardinali from The Dexters also plays a cut-down Precision. It has the tear-drop body, but no added pickups or electronics. It's otherwise a plain P-Bass and it sounds really good.
Since I've now seen three - two in Canada and one in Colorado, I have a hunch that there was some dude in Canada who cut a few of these up, and that perhaps Geddy is mis-remembering and just added the extra pickup.
Peter's bass looks more like the Colorado one and the neck is not modified. It's been years since I've spoken to Peter, but if anyone is heading to a Dexter's gig at the Orbit Room in Toronto, you might ask him if there's a backstory to his cut-down P-Bass.

Yep; especially if played seated. But yank the frets, and you've got a worthy stablemate for a Vox Mark IV.
No Sir, although I did Serve 81-85 USMC, this happened on May 2 2015 I was T boned on my left side as I went thru an intersection on my Harley..
Visually I love it. The colors and lines are really nice to me. I love what it evokes while not looking like a hatchet job.
That said, doing it with any Fender older than 1998 is brainess. The bass has minimal value beyond the pickups and bridge. The neck being described as "heavily modified" makes it nowhere near what a '65 neck is worth. I appreciate that it's $990 and not $3,990, but still. Not more than 1/6 the asking in my book. I lose any interest in these things when the owner takes it too seriously, as if it was a great idea to do and anyone else would be interested in buying it for a grand.

I know other musicians, I check out live music whenever possible and I never see this goofy stuff. Where does it come from? Where does it go? Who "uses" it?
