to make things clear, eye-banez is the American pronounciation of Ibanez. Eee-baniez is the European pronounciation of Ibanez. However the Ibanez company originated in Spain by founder Salvador Ibanez. Of course this was before Ibanez was later bought by a Japanese sheet music company and became the Ibanez guitar company that we all know today. They continue making great sounding bass guitars that's suitable for many genres of music. They're a good company in my opinion.

Thanks for the confirmation. Oddly enough, the official Ibanez Japan site only spells the name out in Romaji. I find that kind of funny.

I remember finding it really weird when moving to New Zealand and everyone here pronouncing it "Eye-bah-nez"! Back in Germany it had always been "Ee-bah-nez", and for me, it still is!

I have never heard anything different than eye-bun-ez.

Neither have I. Also the GC people pronounce it this way, I don't know how credible that is though.

Until I got online and read otherwise, my friends and I all pronounced Neil Peart's last name as 'Purt' because that's the only way we ever heard it pronounced. I don't know why I didn't suspect that I pronouncing it wrong, as I can't think of any word with 'ear' in it that's pronounced 'ur.' His last name is pronounced 'Peert,' BTW.

As far as 'Ibanez' goes, I have no idea.

I have never heard it pronounced EE-banez. When they first started selling instruments in the U.S. I heard people pronounce it with a "short" I as IBB-a-nez, but over the last 20 years or so, I have only heard it pronounced Eyebanez.

The German pronunciation of an English word (contextually - we are speaking English here ) of Spanish origin as a given name to a Japanese company is probably not in the running for the pronunciation of record.

Right you are. The company is named for luthier Salvador Ibáñez. The Spanish pronunciation would be eee-BAHN-yez. However, like everyone I've ever heard say it, I pronounce it EYE-ben-ez.
