I have both. BNF5 is obviously fretless, with an ebony fingerboard, deep cutaway and 28 fret positions. The body has alder wings with a center maple tone block. The body doesn't have the BN5 'hump' at the right strap button. You can get any bridge you choose, including the AC wood type. I have the aluminum Hipshot type. I am so pleased with mine, it has the classic Fender tone but 'richer'. The ergonomics and playability are exquisite. it's probably my all-time favorite bass.
