F Bass Custom BN6 - Updated

Hi Beebebop,

I was hooked onto Fs when I got my BNF5 in 2005. They are amazingly comfortable to play. I dunno how GF does it, but all his fretless has that warmth to it i seldom find in other basses. I didn't have the RMCs wired for midi on AC6. It is just way too expensive for me, that's why i just settled on one bass with it. If it works out well, maybe i'll consider doing it on the AC next time.

EmJazz, you are 'right on' on the price. :crying:

Stellpulz, the six knobs on the right are the unsual F Bass preamp and v/v controls. swtiches from left to right is on/off switch for Piezos to FBass premp; toggle up/down patch; and guitr/synth selection.
The knobs on the left are yone control for Piezo, Piezo volume and left bottom corner for synth volume.
GF mentioned these are Alain Caron's knobs placement design. Quite cool yeah when i heard that :smug:

JuanG and Geoff, what have you ordered and what have you got?
Maybe we can post some pics here too... Its been a while since that "Show your F Basses... " thread.

Geez...I guess George must be quite busy these days having so many people waiting for their basses...Mine will be a buckeye BN5....I'd die to have a AC but I'll see how I like the BN5 so I start saving for the AC.

Man, how can you guys wait like this for basses? I go nuts just waiting for something to arrive from in stock store inventory!!!

As I've told you Bran, I am in the market for an AC6 and a BN6 right now and I love your basses. I might make myself wait if I knew I was getting a signature series "Bran" F Bass! :)

I did see a couple of buckeye waiting to be sprayed when i was there.
Lovely tops.
The best thing is they sound fantastic... just ran a rehearsal with my band yesterday and they love the tone, both the single coil bridge pickup growl on the BN and the sweet singing register of the AC.

Tom, so you did order a BN6 or AC6 and waiting for it???

If you've got something decent to play, then the waiting is half the fun - you know, anticipation.....

If you're too anxious, once you get it, then you might be disappointed when it's over...(I'm only speaking in a musical context :smug: )

At the time you wrote this question the answer was no, but now ...

I've officially joined the ranks of those waiting for a bass. I have an AC6 coming with a redwood top. It isn't as fancy as Link Removed, but George said, "The redwood is slightly softer, adding a little more midrage, and subduing the high-end harshness of the piezo."

You would know better than I would, but I think the redwood top would tweak the AC6 just a teeny bit away from "blurry" and drop it right where I want it sonically.

I am also somewhat considering a Bran bass too. I think the piezos would be a great touch, but I'm iffy on the midi... and waiting for your report! :)

AJ, you are SO COOL! Thanks for getting excited about my bass with me; I'm surprised at how excited I got (again) to read that you think that. You have a GORGEOUS BN6 and some other amazing basses, so it means a lot coming from you.

I like to think I did the redwood for tone, but secretly I'm excited about how it will look too. :ninja: Shh... don't tell anyone though! :D

Hey guys...

I received my AXON MKII from Germany two days ago and has been trying to get it to work.

The verdict is out. F Bass w/ RMC w/ Polydrive I w/ AXON???
It works great!... and just ready to be suitable for live playing.

1) The sad thing was i realized it didnt come with a GK cable in the box. I had to run to my local shop and get one 5metre cable. Luckily I know the guy at the shop for years and he gave me a great price.

2) I turn on the unit, plugged in the cable and my bass... and nah... it didnt track all the very great, even worse than GR-20 i thought. notes on G and D strings were cut very short. and tracking was all over the place. (I almost wanted to order a V-Bass to replace this unit). BUT, RMC is fast in responding, always extremely in fact. He directed me to the forum and i finally got some answers. The firmware need to be upgraded to the current one which is v5.24 mine was 5.04. From the forum, lotsa answers is being answered by members and by the tech crew in Terratec... really responsive.

3) The bass is tracking much better now. Setting each individual string sensitivity levels and trigger levels take a little while long. But the tracking is not just limited to this two settings. In each individual patches/presets, you can choose a whole lot of other options which will work with your own playing style. I cant explain much more becos the options are just too many.

4) I rehearsed with my band and i'm able to dail up synth bass sounds for some disco beats, string patches to support my pianist and guitarist, and also flamenco type guitar sounds to support my guitarist when he is soloing. (the only disappointment was expecting to use JV's bass and drums card "in my XV5080" for modelled bass sounds from MM, John Patitucci and Abe, etc) They are not really good enuff to replace a real good live bass sound.

5) Playing around with the unit again, i found that setting the pickup to "mag" instead of "piezo" gave me better tracking results. I dunno why. The other options in the AXON again amazes me at how much control you can do. (what i'm still trying is to play chords cleanly and for it to track cleanly) I just need to explore more in the weeks to come.

5) The Verdict? It is indeed usable as a live option, but IMO will be best to blend my own bass sound in for groove type purpose. Very clean single notes, but chording will need more exploration. Want it to track even better... drop the patches an octave lower and play up. The sounds within the unit itself is not extremely satisfactory but is very much usable. Its only 16mb.

6) I should think that the V-Bass will "track" better than the AXON for the reason becos it doesn't track. It's more of a bass modelling device like the VG-88. You get other guitar model sounds but not stuff like brass, keyboards, etc. You'll be limited to the sounds within the V-Bass. Well... i might get a V-Bass in the future to do a shootout comparison.

One bass is enough to kill my budget.

I might just send it back to GF next time if i really need the midi option. Or i can try and install myself but it will be really complicated.
The little buzz on the AC6 went off after i played it more and wear the board down a little. Cross my fingers it doesn't come back. :p

It's a pity your AC6 wasn't fitted out with the Midi option (yet!), I would have loved to hear from you how the Axon managed to track a fretless instrument -- I'm coming from the angle of UZEB's World Tour 1990 album, CD 2's "Aspres les confidences" with Alain's pan-pipe application and me re-living my uni days of idolatry again...:hmm:

Nevertheless, I understand that your financial outlay for both instruments and the Midi-gear (plus the field trip to Hamilton!) must have been substantial, so maybe like the rest of us, it's gonna be at least next Christmas before you succumb to anymore GAS attacks again.

I should be back in Singapore for CNY 2007, but really can't confirm now. Work has been ultrahectic out here, so I am really playing it by ear these days. Will PM you my local contact details in due course, if and when I get back home. Should also be interesting hooking up with the rest of the BPS mob, yourself included, just to catch up on how the lower frequencies have been affecting our lives in the past year. But moreso, it should be fun for you guys if this social opportunity intersects with an imminent lepidopteral acquisition of mine which I hope to take home for a simple show and tell session.;) The last time I did something like this with Verismo was with my AC6, and look what happened - he ended up being a dealer for FBass! (just kidding lah, V):D
