Double Bass F.Simandl Tutor Book

I am slowly going through my Simandl tutor. I was given the book--very well used by previous(s) owners--'dog eared' pages--pages sellotaped together--all in all dropping to pieces--reprinted version in 1964-- but still readable. I find the book very good.

My question is: Has a better tutor book been published by a different person? Or shall I buy the up-to-date Simandl tutor? Your expertise most welcome.

I know of 4 different editions of Simandl Book I, but the only ones available are the Fischer, edited by Lucas Drew, and the International edition, edited by Stuart Sankey. If you have a really old one, in English and German, it's the old Fischer edited by Zimmerman. You can find that one on IMSLP, without the Zimmerman material because it's not public domain.
Sankey added a lot of extra material to his edition. I'm not a fan.
Except for Sankey's extra stuff, the notes are the same. I think I might start having my students use the old book from IMSLP because it's more likely they'll need to know some German than Japanese.
Bottom line: use what you have.

Any version is fine. The fingerings are the main difference. You should learn whatever fingerings are there and then work out others.
There is not a better book for self study, though whatever a pro teacher uses with you should be fine.
