Fair Price on a 63 P Bass?

So my buddy has a Fender American 63 P Bass, or at least to the best of my knowledge, that's what it is. I didn't check serial numbers or anything. It does not have the original tuners, or the original bridge. The action is perfect and of course, it sounds absolutely AMAZING. It's the old lake placid blue color, which he said was rare, but I don't think that's true. There's a few little chips in the finish. You can see holes for the original bridge and the original tuners.

So, I have no clue as to the value of such an instrument. I've always bought new, or used but fairly new instruments. What do you guys think is a good price on something like this??? I'm hesitant to even tell what he's asking. It's not really the "friends price."

Sorry. Didn't know. I've been meaning to take care of that. The whole starving musician thing keeps slowing me down, but you're right, as much as I use this forum, it's well worth a 25 year membership. Just tough to part with the scratch.
