Fake Jazz Bass???

Hey Guys, so there's a Fender Jazz bass for sale on my local CL for a great deal but here's the thing. I asked the serial number and it S389652. I got exited thinking that it's a 1970's and it might be but all it says for serial numbers in the data base is S6, S7,S8,andS9+5 digits, but nothing that starts with S3. If there is such thing as an S3 serial then Id be confident but the other reasons I think it may be fake are the made in USA is basically all rubbed off on the front, and the serial number looks shotty, like almost like its a decal but the Fender Logo and Jazz bass look pretty good, Also its Red with a black pick guard and a rosewood fingerboard with no binding or squares in the frets , just dots. But the style of the Fender logo and Jazz bass look like the 70's style! Can someone who knows more about them help me.

Right, well the thing is I don't want the price to influence what people think, like not trying to sound rude and I appraise any help discerning whether or not this is authentic, but does price really matter? It's going cheap, lets just say that lol! I even offered more than she was asking as some people are just nice and don't care about money or just want to get quick cash, but ya It was listed very cheap!

Ya, nothing, Im just saying sometimes great, authentic gear goes cheap so I guess Im just worried that if I said the price people would just be like, yep, its fake lol! She's asking $250(Can) I offered her $300!

At any price the normal questions always apply. Are you buying it because you think it's worth far more than the asking price and you want to flip it? Or are you buying it because it's a great bass and it feels great to play? If the latter, $250 is probably a good price, but you may want to rethink your strategy for future purchases. Regardless of the 'value' of the instrument, there's no harm in starting with a lower rather than higher offer. Why pay more than you have to?

I'll let the Fender experts weigh in on whether it's a 70's or not.

Right, I hear you! Its more about the instrument, not about flipping it! Also Im not sure if its a 70's or not, its just all the serials starting with S are 70's but I couldn't find any serials with a 3 after the S! I mainly just want to know if its an authentic USA or what>?

Ya, Im starting to think that. Like even the pickups are Johnston EMG, So maybe it was a Johnston bass> Im guessing the serial number is either a fake or off another brand? It just looked so similar to fender because of the S+5 digits. Im still a tad bit curious if it could be a fender, or a fender neck? In the closeup of the headstock though the logo looks a little shotty! Thanks for the replies guys! Id love to get a few more opinions though!
