False advertising?

Nailed it. BTW, your post reminded me of a friend of mine who played one of his "originals" at his one man show a couple of weeks ago. He said, "here's a song I wrote called [I don't remember the name]". He proceeds to hit his "band in a footswitch" and it plays a bunch of chords and he noodles on his electric guitar to the chords until the "song" is done. Sheesh.
Now this next song, I'm going to write as I go along. It will be the first time either of us hear it!

Things must be really slow now on talkbass. I am all for discussion topics, but what is the point of some of these threads? Seems like a really weird thing to be ranting about 1 instance of a cover band playing originals instead of the advertised covers. Personally, I would just move on from it if I were the OP as it really seems like not a big deal.
Have to heartily agree and say thanx for saving me the typing, as it were….

I did a studio gig earlier this year for an original "single" that was basically a 3 chord solo. I kept asking myself, "why am I here?"

Then I remembered the money.

Guy was 20 minutes late, BTW; When we hit the negotiated 3 hours from scheduled arrival, I requested a half-hour prorate for overtime. Engineer told him "we got everything we need from everyone but you an hour ago." I bounced, cash in hand.

Yet, here we are on page five. :D

Seems like many (most?) responses are saying it's not a problemif a band advertised as a cover band does originals. Is it also OK if a four piece band shows up as an acoustic duo? What if a country band shows up as a Chicago blues band with horns?

As long as they can do Rawhide and Stand By Your Man, it's all good.

At an open mic night I went to, an acoustic solo artist said "wow, I messed up my own original". I replied "why'd you tell us, we never would have known!"

Back on topic: as gregmon said, maybe the band was a short-notice replacement. That's pretty much how originals bands get paying gigs these days. :roflmao: But if it was true false advertising, that's lame whether the originals were good or not.
I was at an open mic once, and the host (solo acoustic bluegrass mixed with punk type dude) stated he was going to play an original - then he couldn't remember how it went. I was like - well, that's some song!

If you want to listen to the World's Best Cover Band, just kickback in your recliner with a bowl of popcorn, and head on over to Youtube...type in" Lexington Lab Band" and be ready to be amazed how great they are.....You will end up "Binge Watching"!! Enjoy!!
These guys are awesome - I wish they'd actually post some live video type stuff though. Their videos feature a TON of post production. VERY good, but VERY produced/processed. I'd like to see them play live. You can tell they have the stuff though.

Actually, pretty much all facts are actually just opinion. e.g. it is my opinion that the earth is a globe, though opinions vary. I confess that one site I've frequented had a hard and fast rule: If you did not state something as an opinion you were required to post a link to an internet site that supported your statement. It was sort of anal, IMO. Some of us tried to include a sig line that said, basically, "The above post is opinion." Nope. they forced us to hand type it in every post that didn't have a link to a source on pretty much anything. It got pretty funny.

I just cut posters slack on anonymous forums. I assume every post is opinion. After all, none of our posts are "News articles".

Of course, all of the above is just my opinion. :)
No, not at all. A fact is objective, an opinion is subjective.

Actually, I agree with that sentence. It's just that few people argue with objective facts. Most people throw out "subjective" information and think they have presented facts. Or, at least they want you to believe they have presented facts. Try arguing with objective facts some time. There are darned few of them, and even harder to find ones that help your argument regarding anything even remotely controversial.
