Fame Basses

It's all about how you play your cards bro. Admittedly if you're looking at new, the price difference is remarkable, but why on earth would you look at buying new when you can make things happen like the above mentioned deal.

Because maybe...not all folks live in US :eyebrow::smug:

Seriously: things are different in Europe. We don't have such a good SH market and anything coming from a non EU country is taxed (plus the shipping costs...it can add a lot to the price of a bass).

Agreed: considering the current prices of the new Wicks, for the player on a budget the Fame models look quite interesting. At some point (last year...or was it 2009?) they even relased a limited Baphomet edition with LEDs on fretboard, and that bass was only 1100 - 1200 Euros ;) The only thing that kept me so far from ordering one of their basses was the lack of video demos or reviews...it seems like nobody's playing those instruments...

damn! so youre the one who got that infinity....and I cant believe he traded you that monster for a peavy! lucky sob!

haha, yep! That was definitely the best trade I've gotten into so far, but I'll admit that I loved that Cirrus and it was a difficult decision to make; it was a fantastic bass!

You do have a really good point; I've never been to Europe and I'm not super-familiar with the availability of quality product there. I do frequent the Warwick forums (Bulletproof_Bass) and from what I've seen people do seem to have difficulty getting their hands on Warwicks sometimes, which always seemed odd to me considering it's a European instrument.

Seriously, prices like 880euros, all models copies from warwick, lakland, musicman.
If I had that cash I would prefer to save a bit more and get the real thing!
And trust me, it takes much more than mecs to sound like a warwick.

If weight and balance are the reasons for returning the bass, and not the tone or the craftmanship, then I guess these are still pretty good instruments, because it's down to personal preferences: some can handle a heavy bass, others avoid them (health issues and such), some can cope with a bit of neck dive or awkward balancing, others prefer their basses to sit perfectly.

Thanks for sharring some info on the matter ;) It's good to know these basses actually do sound good ;)

I probably get a Corvette Fretless, but I don't know which one yet!

If I'm not mistaken, I've seen two or three live videos where John Campbell (Lamb of God bassist) was playing one of them. Or at least it was exactly the same aesthetically. (sp?)

It could be...but like I've said before, the older Mayones BE Exotic basses looked identical to the Fame Baphomet (the only differences were: Bartolini pups & pre = Mayones vs MEC = Fame...and the name on the headstock)...so it could have been the real deal...I'll look into it ;)

The China models are not actual Warwicks, they're RockBasses.
The real Corvette line is the Pro one, currently made in Korea.

Yea but now Rock Basses are incorporated into Warwick line.....

and apparently they are very well made hence the price hike!

The neck material on the Koreans is heavier wood which from a weight, and neck dive problem....

And I can't see why Korean workers should be any better or better trained than their Chinese neighbours...

1. uhmm...yes and no. They now have a W on the headstock and a 2 piece bridge (like the real Wicks), but they're still called the "RockBass Series".

2. The Korean Corvettes are identical to the older German versions, the only thing that changed is the factory where they're made. They've switched the production to Korea because they were losing money on those (aparently the selling price didn't cover the production costs, or something like that), so they had to either move the production line somewhere with lower production costs, or discontinue the Corvette line. At least this is the info that was given on their forums.

3. A neck made from exotic hard wood it's what Warwicks are all about. I currently own a Corvette Bubinga and a Thumb BO (and I also had a Corvette Ash 5er) and I have zero issues with neck dive or balancing. The Corvettes are perfectly balanced basses, in spite of their weight.

4. I get that you haven't played a lot of asian made basses, ey? :) Well believe it or not, there's a significant difference between the instruments made in Korea and the ones made in China. Korea comes second after Japan in terms of quality & craftmanship (and lately Indonesia has upped a lot the standards, almost on par with Korea). I've owned a good share of asian Ibbys, so I was able to notice the improvements during the last few years.
China makes up by quantity, but they're mostly making low end / cheap instruments, and they're still head and neck into the knockoffs and even counterfeiting original brand instruments.

Agreed though, the new RockBasses do seem very nice for the price - just don't expect them to sound like their big German brothers ;)

I certainly don't need warwick basses. I'm much happier with schecter and Ibanez basses. recently I took a real shine to peavey millennium basses. anyways, those fame basses look pretty cool. their musicman clone looks pretty cool. if I was still interested in musicman-styled bass guitars, I would of bought their musicman clone. also I've noticed they seem more affordable than warwick basses(even though the website that sell these basses is from another country).

This was the most recent thread I could find on these basses, so I'm bumping it!

I'd like to hear from more players and possibly see some photos :)
