Famous musicians you've ALMOST met

A girl in the high school show group I was in got nervous and threw up offstage at the Rehab Telethon while Ricky Skaggs was on stage and as we took her back to the dressing rooms to get cleaned up, Skaggs got done and headed offstage and slipped in her puke. Does that count?

This may not exactly be appropo for the thread, but it's kind of related, and a funny story. Years ago my wife and I went to a Perry Como concert at the Garden State Arts Center in Holmdel, NJ. We didn't go to see Perry, really; we actually went to see Jay Leno, who was opening for him. My wife is related to Jay.

After Jay's set, we went backstage to see him, and heard someone say that Ray Charles was back there also. My wife and I got all excited that we might see the great Ray Charles, who I loved, and then Jay asked us if we wanted to meet him! Wow! Eventually we were brought to meet Ray Charles, and there we stood in front of this old, short, white guy. Turns out it was the Ray Charles of the Ray Charles Singers, who performed with Como for years. Ray probably always wondered why we wanted to meet him so much. Lots of "hommana, hommana's" that night. :-)

In 1988 (or '87), some friends at the community college I was attending were the President and Treasurer for a club or organization that were on the campus. They asked me if I would mind picking up an artist that was scheduled to play at the campus concert hall for the University of Illinois that evening from the airport, but I turned it down. I hadn't heard of the guy before...

It was Dizzy Gillespie... :(

I've been hating myself for that one for awhile...

I literally ran into Marcus Miller in the public washrooms a few hours before his SMV show in Toronto (couple years ago.. memory is a hazy mess). I was completely star struck but managed to shake his hand and call him a legend or something... He muttered "thanks" and briskly walked away haha. I would very much like the opportunity to make another first impression.

I used to work for Simon & Schuster as a production manager up until about 5 years ago. I got to work on a few books for famous people, including Bob Dylan and Elvis Costello. On both occasions they were in the building meeting with the editor and I didn't find out until they left. Doah! In my defense, I did work closely with Isaac Mizrahi for a series of comic books, and he signed the books and thanked me in the credits:

Neil Young came into the restaurant that my wife used to work at, about 1/2 hour before I picked her up from her shift. He even signed one of the little wooden pillars in the dining room. Side note - dumbass owner changed the decor and painted over the sig!!!:rollno:

A few near misses with Esperanza Spalding and Susan Tedeschi...but we have had so much good luck meeting so many incredible musicians over the years...really can't complain at all. I was just reading my daughter's autograph book that she's had since 2003. It's filled with so much inspiration and great memories for her!
