Famous Pick Bassists

Harvey Brooks seriously laying down jump blues with Electric Flag in 1967. (Great contributions from Mike Bloomfield on guitar and Buddy Miles on drums.)

I was under the impression that he was a finger player…in that clip it looks like he was actually usung his thumb. The Electric Flag(Bloomfield’s band)was just one small facet of his career. He was there for Dylan’s first electric recordings, then an album that I wore out, Super Session.

Perhaps, but I don't think so in this case. Look at around 0:47 and the position of his thumb under his hand and the index finger arched around to hold a pick. This may not be an example of everything he did, or indeed every playing style, but I think it's a nice picked boogie. (Of course I could be absolutely wrong. That happened once back in the 60's.)

Plus, on any of his iconic recordings, it doesn’t sound like a pick, but that is all subjective of course.
