Fanned Frets?????

I think it's actually more about feel to me. Ergonomically it's better on the left hand too. The even tension is the big selling point to me, even string to string tone is another advantage.

Sorry they annoy you, they have the opposite effect for me.

I think you really need to try one with your hands and ears not just your eyes.

Does anyone make a cheaper fanned fret bass than the Dingwall sort of level? It's an intriguing idea but I imagine the cost and lack of mass-market appeal probably means the mainstream manufacturers avoid them.

Expecting a mass production import company to make one isn't going to happen. Dingwall's Combustion is about as cheap as it will get for the moment.

I am so gasing for a Dinwall!! OMG. They just really seem to be cool to play. Where I am located, there is no such thing as going to a store to try one out. Buy one and give it a whirl.. As soon as I come out of this winter season, a Dingwall is on my agenda..

I love my Combustion - the tone overall is the best of any bass I've played. I'd buy a fretless Z in a heartbeat, but I can only sell so many organs...

I keep hoping Kurt over at Rondo will do a multiscale bass, seems like he'd be able to get one out at around $500 - $600. It boggles my mind that he has 7 string multiscale guitars but nothing in a multiscale bass. Also, seeing an instrument on that site for Link Removed made me do a double take.
