This guy is a what? Admin at a college? He's an idiot who doesn't understand the science behind it. Probably has a liberal arts background.
Someone needs to explain to him that he wouldn't feel it because neither he nor the Earth are accelerating, relative to the other. Does he think a car isn't moving when he's in it, even though he can see everything that it drives past? What about the night sky- does he not see different star, planet and constellation positions as time passes?
Did they have scones or crumpets also?
I've lived in the FL Keys on and off for about 15 years and have never once heard of being able to see Cuba with the naked eye, or even a good pair of binocs. If you could, wouldn't you think that there would be signs to that effect at the Southernmost POint in Key West? Also, I fish off of the Keys and at about 10 miles out you can no longer see the shore, and need binoculars to even see cell phone towers, etc. Cuba is 10 times further away.....OP, your friend was either hoaxing you OR perhaps really thinks he saw something, but I can assure you he did not..........
