Fast floor tuner for fretless playing?

Hi,

I would like to have a floor tuner for use in checking the intonation while I'm playing fretless on gigs. You know how it goes, sound man says "turn down", and sometimes you actually want to make the sacrifice for the good of the cause, but intonation starts to go to heck in a handbasket fast if you can't hear yourself well.

I don't have a rack, and do not have the desire for one. Plus, my amp usually sits behind me, and I would like something that I can still at least face the audience, even if I'm not looking at them

I do have a POD XT Live. What I have been trying is just feeding my Korg GA-30 tuner with the DI input output of the POD, but the tuner isn't real fast, and I think it's just not made to be a real-time tuner, it's pretty spotty as to whether it will light up whem I'm further up the neck - of course, the places where intonation is getting that much more critical.

Any suggestions for a better setup?

One other option would be to use a set of in-ear earphones to hear yourself better. There was a good thread in the Amps forum about inexpensive DIY IEM's.

FWIW, I use a Peterson Strobostomp, and as awesome as it is for accuracy and visibility, it sometimes "hangs" on a note for a second or two and doesn't follow me right away in realtime.

IMO the Boss TU-2 (in stream mode) does the job nicely.

You're probably looking for a tuner with an actual needle readout, as opposed to an LCD/LED. Try a Boss TU-15?

It would have to have a big meter. What I would prefer is LEDs, expecially since it will be on the floor and not up in my face like a rack mount.

I expect he is talking about a DT-10. I have one too. It's accurate, but not fast enough for real-time tracking.
