What's the quickest you've ever gone from wanting to owning a bass of a specific brand? I had never really thought about Roscoe's until I played one on Friday and it blew me away. Now I own one, lol. It's not in my possession yet, but it is mine . That's 4 days full days, how about you?
My 70's Classic Jazz Bass. I found out I wanted it in October, and bought it in December. The longest was my Hoppus bass, which I wanted for almost 4 years before I bought one.
When I'm in the market for one, I know generally what I have in mind. Usually a sound, rather than a brand. Sometimes it's been "OK, this one" and I'm done. Sometimes, it's been "this is the sound I want, BUT I want [some other features]" so I'll order and pay for it. Might not be in my hands for a while.
I never owned or wanted a P bass. Walked into a store and played one for 20 min or so, bought it immediately. Went to the store originally for strings.
I walked into a "junk" store in K Town Germany in '75 and they had a '68 Hofner 500/1 very similar to Pauls, they wanted a rediculously low price (I'm talking about $100 american) and even tho' it was a tiny bit beat up, I walked out with it. Didn't know I wanted a Beatle bass until then, I had only been "really" playing for three years and had just bought my first bass, a late 60's P a few months before. I'd been gigging with a borrowed P bass until then.
Kwesi Congrats on becoming a Roscoehead. I should start the flip side to this thread. ie; How long have you wanted a bass of specific brand and have yet to acquire one. Roscoes are awesome but I'll probably never be able to afford one. Please post pics and sound clips in the Roscoe Forum when it arrives. God Bless, Ray
Not got that yet: a couple in line before that! ...be sure to post some pics when you have the Roscoe in hand!
Who said I could afford it, Lol ! I just couldn't help myself and I got a pretty sweet deal. Plus when essentially all of your income is disposable, exercising restraint becomes VERY difficult. Alas, these are probably the last 2 months it'll be that way , I leave for college in late August.
I walked in Skip's Music last December to play all the cheaper basses they had, and played all of them except for some fruity looking Dean that looked like it'd never been touched. I asked a sales rep if they had anything else, preferably something that sounded close to a Ric but had a thinner neck, and he walked over, grabbed the Dean, and said try this. I almost didn't play it out of general brand hate of their "metal" guitars and basses, but I decided to give it a chance, and loved everything about it. Then I whipped out my iPhone and looked it up and barely found anything. The sales rep said they'd been out of production since like 03 or 04, so I put $100 down on it so no one else could snatch it up. I went in six days later and emptied out my wallet to pay the rest off (something like $356). So, that's instantly for me.
I thought this thread was going to be about "fastest wanting to owning to turnover (as in selling) time"! I bet it's a matter of hours in some cases around here.
I'm sure the turnaorund will not be great for me in my latest gas. DAMN MOVING! I want a measly $369 Avatar cab and it will be a while 'fore I have the funds. Trouble is I'm doing more outdoor gigs and need to push my full 350watts so I think I'm gonna go used. Oh well.
yeah, i did that once too!!!.. got a bass solely on a friends constant recommendation... god was i sorry.
