fave countries other than own

I'd love to visit Australia too but my interest in the country came from making friends with a couple when I was living in Japan.
Not that seeing them would be the only reason to go.

Haven't really been too many places but I've lived 5 years out of the last 8 in Japan and really look forward to going back.

Lived in Canada for a little over half a year too and like getting down there whenever I can too.

Being such a big country it's very different from place to place and also depending on what you're doing, how well you speak the language, and your general personality.

I get along very well with many Japanese and the ones I have trouble with are the same as the non-Japanese I have trouble with; I love humble, confident people and very much dislike arrogant, self-important types. Both can be found in abundance there.

It's funny you mention Gaijin, because that's my friends' boyfriends' nickname! He doesn't know it though!
His name is Guy and she's Japanese so when we're talking in Japanese we always refer to him as "GuyJin".

At work we have nicknames for everyone else so that we never have to say their names when we're using Japanese. If we don't then people always turn their heads when they hear a name, wondering what we're saying about them.

So, how is France? Tell us about your people and food too!

Yeah I'm a big fan of Japanese culture and Japanese in general. They're very interesting :)

I dont speak the language but I think I could get along, I know enough about the culture to understand what to do and not to do. Really have to visit someday.

France is nice depending on where you are, your personality and how well you speak the language also. South East of France is great, the whole Mediterranean coast is really whats worth seeing IMO. Paris is nice for all the reasons you already know, but nothing compares to the great weather (think Spain) nice people and sand beaches of the south east ;)

Food well, there is too much to tell ;) There is ALOT of french food Americans would love though, thats for sure. Alot of cakes, patisseries, etc, etc, alot of very raffined meals as well, even in cheap restaurants for 10-20 euros you can eat very very well. We also have many many more traditional, regionally centered food and meals, with specialties depending on the city, etc... Way too much stuff to say, but that should give you an idea ;)

If you really want great cuisine, I remember going to a GREAT french restaurant in Phoenix AZ, heres a link ot the information:

Expensive, and dressed up, but very very good food. If ever someone goes there, try the Mousse au chocolat for dessert ;)

haven't traveled much outside the u.s. but i plan on doing a lot soon. i've always wanted to go to iceland, the videos and pictures i've seen are amazing and ethereal, like a not so distant planet. my wife is from russia so ill be traveling there in december :smug:
