So I've been slowly trying to upgrade my rig with very little money or knowledge of what's out there - I need some advice. I'm shopping for a replacement for my aguilar gs 112 which crapped out on me on friday.
I run an older eden traveler head (300 watts@4 ohms, 175@8) with an ibanez btb 4 string, and had been using the aguilar gs 115 as a main cab. I love it, one of the best sounding cabs I've had the opportunity to play (by no means an extensive list) - the lows just seem a bit more full than cabs using 10 or 12 inch speakers, which is why I've kept it around despite its bulk.
Having good luck with aguilar, and reading excellent reviews of the gs 112 on here, I thought that would be a good option to sit on top of the 115 for larger venues - push a bit more air and drop my rig down to 4 ohms for extra wattage. It had the benefit of being able to act as a stand alone for small venues/rehearsals as well.
Despite solid reviews on here, i wasn't a huge fan of the gs 112... maybe because it just wasn't loud enough on its own, and couldn't compare to the 115.
I still want a smaller cab to add to the 115 for larger venues, and that I can use as a stand alone as necessary, so I'm thinking a 210 would be the way to go? It seems like it might add a bit more punch to the highs and mids than my 112 did - how do 112s vs 210s compare in terms of volume and sonic qualities? (sorry for noob questions).
I'm thinking lightweight as well... I end up on public transit sometimes - I can put the traveler head in a back pack, bass in one hand, and the 112 would go in the other - it would be nice if I could one-hand the 210, or whatever I get to replace the 112. So I guess I well have to take the leap into neo stuff, which I have no experience with, so any advice there would be helpful.
I've been looking at pictures of cabs from markbass, epifani, schroeder, genz benz, and the list goes on - pictures only take you so far, so I was hoping some of you could help... I'm in canada, so I don't always have the opportunity to play something before a purchase, so any thoughts or ideas would be a big help.
