Actually, there were several of these featured at the Custom Car & Hot Rod Show in Austin. Beautifully restored! One of them was outfitted for surfing, with a double-rack mounted on top to carry both long and short boards. Very cool!

Ford Torino. That particular one is a '70. I like them from '68-'71 but I am more partial to the '70/'71 years.
I had one exactly like that in HS, 429 SCJ engine and the whole deal. Wish i still had it.

the best muscle car I ever owned was a '69 Olds 442. That thing was a BEAST. Oh how I miss it...
Best muscle car I ever owned was a 79 Chevy Impala, which was my first car. We replaced the stock 354 V8 with a new corvette 354 V8 engine and then my dad lowered the gearing ratio so it was lower geared for towing our camping trailer. NOTHING could beat that beast off the line.

Chevelle SS...year 1970...only because the LS-6 was available that year.
I had a 1969 Chevelle SS in 1978. 46,000 original miles in good + to very good condition.
Matching numbers car, I bought it for $1069 in Milwaukee.
That car today in the same condition would likely bring somewhere in the area of $15 to maybe $35-40K depending.
I could do the regular "I wish I hadn't sold it....if only I knew"
But the truth is, I couldn't have known how much real muscle cars would increase in price.
GM was in real muscle cars until 1970, Ford & Mopar until 1971.
After that, a car cannot be considered a true muscle car.
That does not mean that later years weren't very kool...and some pretty fast.
But that is the standard.
It looked just like this one, only it had the original rims:

The reason I like Chevy best is simply the cost of horsepower to dollar ratio.
More bang for your buck.
Plus, for instance, the Mopar 440 engine in 72 had an A & a B motor.
The distributor turned either way.
Chevys are very interchangeable and relative to each other. The distributor out of a 327 will bolt right into a 454 Rat motor and operate correctly.
Simple is better.
Mopar did have the koolest motor ever...THE 426 HEMI !!!
As a side note, Mopar did not come up with the Hemi.
They bought the design from Desoto and subsequently modified it into the awesome 426 Hemi.
Ford did so much for drag racing and didn't, IMO, get the accolades they deserved.
Ford was very instrumental in the A/FX cars of the 60's...which if you know your drag racing, the A/FX cars eventually turned into modern "Funny Cars"
Dyno Don Nicholson being the first with a flip-top funny car.
Called "Eliminator"...it won 39 straight races from the time Don brought it out.

The baddest car I've ever ridden in is one of these http://www.firebirdgallery.com/fireamlot1.htm a stage 3 with a lot of work done to it, a street legal race car, one evil beast. Someday when I get rich.
