Favorite Bass/Amp Combination

I love seeing musicians working on a budget, for some reason...like for example, seeing someone rocking out on a Hamer "Slammer" P-copy and an old Peavey combo is just awesome to me. I dunno why.

since u said classic, i will mention i used a friends backline other night for a rock band practice, it was a 2x15 aqmpeg cab, with a behringer tube head. NOT BAD!!!!!!!!!

very drivey and chunky like classic rock !

StingRay through through an EBS rig. EBS somehow just boosts the natural characteristic brightness of SRs, I don't know how.

Lakland 44-02 into SWR Marcus Miller M2 pre-Amp, then into Markbass LM2 and finally into Markbass 4x10 front ported cab ( 8 ohm ).
Its a keeper - honest...believe me....Mmmmmm Rebelhead........lol

This is what I have going on right now:


Musicman Sterling HS and a Rickenbacker 4001 Fretless going into a Markbass 102 CMD Cabinet (I also have a 1X12 extension cab for the Markbass).

Both the Musicman and the Ric sound incredible through the rig.

For the Musicman, I get that classic growl, and unbelievably tight, snapping attack. Doesn't matter how "loud" I am, I always cut through the mix. No boomy sound whatsoever.

For the Ric, I get very warm Ric/fretless growly organic sound. Almost double bass sounding.

I've experimented a lot, and this is the setup that has (for now) cured my GAS.

Peavey Foundation through an Eden WT Traveler 400 driving GK210 and 115. Full round sound with solid bottom, mids, and cutting but not aggressive highs.

Just to chime back in, I was asking this because I now own a variax 5-string bass and a POD X3. I was curious about which bass/amp combos people liked, so that I could try them with these modeling tools. As expected, there are some combos I wouldn't have thought of.

For modeling a GK or Bassman top with 2 X15, tho the old Sunn model of the 18+12 sounds good too... I like the SWR mod but also w 2X15

Bass would be a P or a Stringray, for super clean, one of the Alembics.

Hard to beat a Ric through a tube powered Ampeg rig, or a Mesa hybrid. Really, a Ric through any good amp works for me.

Lakland 55-94 into a GB Shuttle 6.0 into a Bergantino AE410. Not exactly classic but it m-m-makes me happy.

Ric 4003 into a CRANKED SVT VR or Matamp

or

a P or J into a CRANKED Mesa 400+ or Mesa BB750 (either of the 4 combinations will work)

+1000 on the Ric into an SVT or Matamp
However, my Ric 4001 cranked through my "old" 400+ sounded pretty phenominal itself.

I've been loving my P cranked thru my Mesa TitanV12 lately.

I love the tones i get from my BTB575 going into my GK fusion 550 and out my eden 4x10 and gk sbx 115....i still get warm all over every time i turn it on <---pretty much like this.....im going to swap out the GK cab for another eden,then i think ill be finally be satisfied...at least for this year
