Depends what I’m after. Dunwich Wizard is probably still my go to favorite. I’ve been working with the Pigtronix Star Eater which needs a blend on bass, and the BSRI FZZ which has a blend. Both of those are octave up fuzz sounds.

Hot cake gets played a lot - it’s nuanced enough for the band mix

I’ve tried a bunch of fuzz units. I think the crucial thing is to get a blend knob (either built in the pedal or otherwise).
