favorite foreign movie

I don't think I have seen any. If they don't get played at my local mega-plex, I'm out of the loop. There is a run down theater here in Olympia that shows off the wall foreign films, but the riff raff that hangs out around the building is too freaky for me to even try and go inside.

I don't think Maria Full of Grace would qualify as a foreign film in the US, but then Frida wouldn't either. However, for the most part it is in Spanish. I thought it was a particularly good film, sort of "gritty realism" without the "film noir" aspects. And I felt it ended on a positive, if still realistic note.

I thought it was pretty good, I don't know if I'd buy it, but it's definately worth checking out. A very human portrait of drug-running without being too after-school-special-y.

I really liked City of God, one of my favorite movies probably. Also; Amelie, Triplets of Bellevue, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (IT COUNTS!),Contempt, Band of Outsiders, and Turtles can Fly.

Motorcycle Diaries was very pretty and a lot of fun to watch, but I don't know if I'd make it a favorite.

Ah, ok. It wasn't shown in the big cinemas here in Adelaide, so I guess it was classified more as a foreign film than anything else.

Heh, the list I posted before is by no means my list of favourites, but they're the only foreign films I've seen. :smug:

Latcho Drom (!!!...wish I could find this on DVD, possibly the most beautiful film I have seen and heard......it is mesmerizing)

Nothing is more believeable than a Russian submarine captain with a Scottish accent.

Okay sarcasm off...if you watched the original German Das Boot (not the dubbed, shortened, American version) then I cannot understand your statement other than saying everyone's got an opinion! :eek:
