FAVORITE Lightweight Vertical 212 Cabinet?

It's a good format, and there are several people making good cabs in this format.

The vertical orientation will help prevent comb filtering and improve vertical dispersion -- which makes it easier to hear the cab wherever you stand in the room.

I was all set to build a Bill Fitzmaurice Simplexx 212 when I found an LDS cab on the classified ads here for essentially the cost of parts.

I used to gig with a pair of 410 cabs -- and I've been entirely satisfied with the SOUND of this cab.

The fact that it weighs 60% of what ONE of my 410 cabs weitghed is a big bonus, but not the reason for my purchase.

FWIW this cab is loaded with Eminence Kappalite 3012HO drivers and an 18Sound horn.

It's a custom made cab built over 25 years ago to vintage Bassman Specs. The EV Pros sounds amazing and can handle seemingly endless power. It's not light but still the best cab I've ever used.

Older Bassman 2x12's are a bit harder to find now but they're still out there. Snag a used one, recover, add new hardware if desired, and stock with good speakers. Well worth the investment.

Cool thanks for answering. with EV pros, aren't they tuned to a specific cabinet size or does that not matter? Steve Harris from Iron Maiden put four EVs in a Marshall 4X12 cab and his sound his great. It's more of a hard hitting midrange instead of deep lows.

Hello! I'm researching which couple of lightweight vertical 2x12" cabinets to go after. One for small gigs, two for bigger gigs, so I'll need them at 8 ohms. Bonus points if they can handle a wide variety of amp types and wattages. I'm just seeing what you girls and boys like and have experience playing.

In my case ignorance is bliss. I only recently discovered [here on TB] that speakers are designed for specific cabs. I aways knew ported cabs had to be tuned but mine are sealed. This is the second time I've added new speakers to a cab with amazing results, dumb luck. Probably more problematic w/ ported cabs.
With my 2x12 the mids are very punchy that will cut thru any band but the lows are certainly there as well, very tight and never muddy.

79 lbs is light in the sense of Mesa cabs and is also one of the more easy of their cabs to move around I think, but their PowerHouse 2x12 is solid!

I've heard they're great paired with a TH500, which is what I'll be using.

I CURRENTLY use a pair of Hartke AK 115's in full stack, but they're heavy for one man. Best 115's I've ever heard though

I’ve read that as well, but I honestly never actually heard one in person. I’ve been running a Mesa D800 with a GK MBF800 as a backup/alternate. Both sound great with the CN212. The Mesa just tickles my fancy a bit more.

Another option , that's cheaper, would be to build a pair of fEARful 12/6, or 15/6 cabs.. or, and authorized Greenboy builder could build a pair.. they're just a great as the Fearless line... I once paired the F112 with my fEARful 12/6 and it was lethal

Probably not the exact answer you are looking for, but I am 6'5" and play in some pretty loud bands & situations. My Barefaced Super Twin is all I ever need. 4 ohms, though, so unless you get a 2 ohm-friendly amp or run them in series a pair won't work.

My Carvin BX1200 would push 400w RMS into two of those 4 ohm babies. Two amps, two volume knobs, active crossover.

If you want the absolute best..Greenboy Fearless F212. Or 2 x F112 if you want to go modular. I use the later. But you need lots of $$

I have modded my 212 with a 1200w amp module from Hypex and a studio tube preamp for adding warmth or heat when using the DI out of my Fender Bronco 40.
Its the perfect small footprint clubrig. Flat on top of my fEarfull 15/6 its simply amazing on spread, definition, punch, bottom and tremors. At 20 to 25% of maxpower. Total weight inc ampmod 24 kilos.
