Prettiest pieces or parts NOT including Debussy Claire de Lune or Bach air on G (yuck)?

Rachmaninov Piano Concerto 2, at the end of 2nd movement oh man I love that.
Liszt, Piano Sonata Bmin--the whole thing just beautiful.
Firebird Suite finale I'm a sucker for double horn.
Beethoven 7th, II so pretty & stately. very nice.

There is an AWESOME triple forte section which comes out of a lengthy calm section of a Tchaikovsky concerto. I had it cranked up in my car to hear the soft middle part and I almost flew off the road when it hit. Maybe someone can think of it before I go look it up here...

The first thing that comes to mind is the 3rd movement of Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No.6. It's so catchy I think it could made into a hit pop tune. I also like the fact that it features the viola rather than the violin. The bassist in that performance is Alois Posch, although some historically informed performances do not include a double bass in this concerto.

Very pretty. The camera man had his mind made up!
Reminds me--for a year or so after my son was born i only listened to rostropovich's Bach cello sonatas. That went on for a while. Not sure why I'm just strange I guess.

Henryk Gorecki's Third Symphony, the 1st movement.

Also, his entire first string quartet as performed by the Kronos Quartet, 'Already it is dusk'.

Other personal favourites are Dvorak's 5/9 symphony 2nd movement where the cello's repeat the bass' pizz solo in bowed tremolo. The last bar of Franck's Symphony in D minor, because I hate playing that symphony. Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition, 'The hut on hen's legs (baby yaga)', because of how defining it is of Nationalist Russian music in the 19th C, and Veronika Krausas' Cloissone for 5ths double bass, because of how beautiful it shows our low end can be in a solo context.

I must research! Thnks
