Favorite Onboard Pre-Amp

I have two Auderes and no Aguilars. So comparison a bit tricky. After sales services with Audere is fantastic. The Audere pre-amps are top notch and the EQ is useable over the whole tonal range. The volume pot is non-linear so you don't get all the volume in the last turn of the knob. The battery checker is a nice feature, but overall the vol/blend and 3-band EQ work really well and I love them.

I'e got Auderes in a Fender Jaco Jazz fretless and a custom build Cliff Bordwell bass. In both cases I have used Nordstrand PUs.

I had Glenn at Bass Specialties install an Sadowsky on board preamp into my MTD JJ 5 and it made a tremendous tonal difference. The bottom is very focused and the highs are musical not brittle. The mids are set perfectly, so you cut through the mix.

John East, based in the UK, makes fantastic pre-amps.

BIG +1 to that.

I just put an ACG preamp (on of John East's designs) into my fretless bass.
It replaced a Bart NTBT.
I don't miss the Bart at all.
The ACG is clearer (set flat) and has so much more tonal flexibility.
Amazing preamp.
