For me, the ultimate "there's only three notes but I need to crank it up" song is "Once In A Lifetime" by the Talking Heads. A, F#, and E all day long!

There's something to be said for "Smells Like Teen Spirit" as well...one could argue it is THE song of the 90s, and the bass line is all of four notes...

I don't think there is any argument - Smells Like Teenage Spirit is the song of an entire generation.

Gimme All Your Lovin' and Sharp Dressed Man by ZZ Top. I sing lead on those but the bass work is simple but consistent.

Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers is another simple ZZ bass line. I sing the lead vocal on this one because the bass line is pretty easy. If I'm going to sing, the bass line has to be simple and driving, or follow the vocal closely. Every time I play and sing at the same time, I learn a renewed appreciation of Geddy Lee and Chris Squire (and many others).
