I can think of several simple tunes. But, one of the best has to be Floyd's, "Comfortably Numb". The dynamics between the bass & drums absolutely drive that song home andm put chills down your spine.
Graveyard Train by CCR. One chord, five note walk down on a blues scale on the bass for 6 minutes but Fogerty at his best before he started thinking too much.
My two favorite elegantly simple yet powerful songs: Redemption Song by Marley and Working Class Hero, John Lennon.
I just remembered one from back in the day: Still Loving You by Scorpions. When I was 17 my band covered that. We had this hot chick singer with an amazing voice who I was certain would, if given a chance, blow Klaus Meine off the stage. To be honest I didn't think the bassline was all that fun to play, but listening to that girl sing it made it totally worth it.
