Favorite "They Played on THAT Tune?"

Isn't it interesting when you learn that a notable (if only to you) player is playing on a song you would never associate him/her with?

For example, I have had Paula Cole's excellent "This Fire" CD for years, and only recently read the liner notes. It turns out that Tony Levin is all over that disc. As soon as I listened again, I couldn't believe that I didn't figure it out on my own. The single "Feelin' Love" for instance has a very typical Levin groove and tone. What a cool detail about an already great recording.

I knew Ry Cooder played on the Rolling Stones album Let It Bleed, but I just found out that he not only played on "Honky Tonk Women", but he wrote the riff! Damn!

His resume is actually quite awesome.

Hmmm........I just came across a gospel album by Kim Jordan and I was so digging the bassist's playing, I looked up the artist on allmusic.com and checked the album credits and it turns out to be Scott Ambush from Spyro Gyra!

You are correct. Felix Pappalardi played the bass and Jack Bruce played the piano.

Clapton playing on the Beatles' "while My Guitar Gently Weeps" and Roger Waters' "The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking" were "Oh wow" moments for me.

Wrong. Jack played the bass and Felix played piano and mellotron. Felix did play bass on "Goodbye Cream" 'though, on Baker's "What A Bringdown" where Jack played piano and organ.
