Double Bass Favorite Vocal Jazz Recordings

I can’t find any recordings of Billy Eckstine (one of my all time favorites) with a small(er) band anywhere on the internet. I need to dig through my records and turn away from this streaming nonsense, I know I’ve got something somewhere…

I was certainly aware of Lorez Alexandria before, but I don't think I had ever sat down and listened to her. I like her a lot. Great voice, great expression, good repertoire, and seemed to make more smallish group recordings than her contemporaries.

just found this one, checks a lot of boxes … my introduction to Mr. Bill Henderson. Seems to come out of a Tony Bennet meets Sammy Davis Jr tradition with just a little Joe Williams for flavor. The band ain’t too bad, either…

This is a great one. Don’t Go To Strangers was on the juke box at Rusty’s Jazz Cafe in Toledo back in the day. George Duvivier on Bass and Roy Haynes on drums, a strange and beautiful hook up. I spent a lot of time with this record. Frank Wess on Tenor and Flute.
